7dHoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported the Nuggets agreed to a deal with Kessler Edwards.

Edwards, who spent last year on a two-way with Dallas, will now join the Nuggets, though the official terms of the deal weren’t reported. However, with Denver already having 14 players under contract and all three two-way spots filled, this could be just a training camp deal for Edwards that isn’t guaranteed. Still, he’s been a solid player through the first four years of his career after being a second-round pick and could certainly work his way into a role with Denver, though it likely won’t be a large one.

30dNuggets signed G Curtis Jones to a two-way contract.

The undrafted wing out of Iowa State played well for Denver during summer league, averaging 15 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. Now, he’ll get a chance to stick around the team, though he’ll likely spend most of next season in the G League.

DaRon Holmes II

1moDaRon Holmes II finished with 10 points (3-of-8 FGs), 11 rebounds, one assist, two steals and two three-pointers in a 101-97 loss to the Raptors on Tuesday.

Holmes has played well through three Summer League games, averaging 11 points and seven rebounds per game. He tore his Achilles last summer, so the fact he has been able to produce at a high level is impressive. He’ll likely just be a depth piece on the bench for the Nuggets this season, but it is good to see him playing well.

Spencer Jones

Jones is on a two-way contract, and the moves made by the Nuggets this offseason likely limit his opportunities to change that. However, the Nuggets had to be pleased with his performance on Saturday, as Jones shot 66.7 percent from the field and grabbed six rebounds. There’s no need to consider Jones for fantasy leagues, but injuries can present opportunities throughout the season.

E.J. Liddell

Having struggled with injuries throughout his professional career, Liddell is playing with the Nuggets in hopes of earning another opportunity. He played well on Thursday, as his dunk with just over five seconds remaining gave Denver a two-point lead. Unfortunately for Liddell, he ended up on the wrong end of the game’s final shot, with Jamaree Bouyea hitting a three over the forward’s outstretched hand as time expired. Liddell is not a fantasy target regardless of league size, but his goal is to grab a team’s attention and earn a contract.

DaRon Holmes II

1moDaRon Holmes II (Achilles) tallied 15 points (6-of-9 FGs), four rebounds, one assist, one block and three three-pointers in Thursday’s loss to the Bucks.

Having suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during his summer league debut last year, Holmes played in an organized game for the first time in 363 days on Thursday. He played well, shooting 66.7 percent from the field overall and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Holmes is another player impacted by Denver acquiring Jonas Valančiūnas from the Kings, as opportunities on the back end of the rotation may be limited. However, the rookie forward is a versatile player who can be used at the four or the five, depending on the matchup. Holmes is worth watching, especially for those competing in dynasty leagues.

Hunter Tyson

1moHunter Tyson amassed 12 points (4-of-14 FGs, 3-of-5 FTs), 11 rebounds, two assists, two steals and one three-pointer in Thursday’s loss to the Bucks.

While Tyson did not have his best night shooting the basketball, he did finish the one-point defeat with a double-double. After appearing in 18 games as a rookie, the 2023 second-round pick made 51 appearances for the Nuggets last season. Denver’s addition of Jonas Valančiūnas strengthens their frontcourt rotation, likely making it more challenging for Tyson to offer statistical value after playing sparingly in his first two seasons.

Nikola Jokic

1moThe Denver Post’s Bennett Durando reports Nikola Jokic won’t sign an extension with the Nuggets this offseason.

There’s no need to panic and get out the trade machine. Delaying an extension until next summer could allow him to make roughly an extra $80 million. This isn’t Jokic giving Denver an ultimatum to put more talent around him or he’s going to ask out; it’s simply a wise financial decision.

Jonas Valanciunas

1moESPN’s Shams Charania reports the Nuggets expect Jonas Valančiūnas to honor his contract and play for the team next season.

Needing to upgrade their backup center situation, the Nuggets acquired Valančiūnas from the Kings in exchange for Dario Šarić. However, on Thursday, it was reported by BasketNews that the veteran center was considering a move to Europe to play for Greek power Panathinaikos. Valančiūnas is under contract with the Nuggets, so he would require a buyout to move to Greece. According to Charania, the Nuggets view JV as a key component for next season, so he’ll have to fulfill the requirements of his contract. Playing behind Nikola Jokić limits Valančiūnas’ fantasy value, but he’ll have “real” value to a team that hopes to contend for a championship.

1moBasketNews reports Jonas Valančiūnas is considering a return to Europe to play for Panathinaikos.

Reportedly acquired from the Kings in exchange for Dario Šarić, it’s reportedly possible that Valančiūnas will not suit up for the Nuggets in 2025-26. According to BasketNews, Greek power Panathinaikos has offered the veteran center a three-year, €12 million contract. Should he remain in the NBA, Valančiūnas will make nearly $10.4 million with the Nuggets, but the final year of his deal (2026-27) is not guaranteed. The Nuggets appeared to have shored up their backup center position with the Valančiūnas trade, but they’ll be forced to return to the drawing board if he decides to return to Europe to continue his career.
