Russell Westbrook shot 9-of-17 from the field and 1-of-2 from the foul line in Saturday’s win over the Warriors, accounting for 20 points, four rebounds, four assists, and one 3-pointer in 32 minutes.
With it being reported before the game that some members of the Lakers organization believe that he should be benched, all eyes were on Westbrook Saturday night. While he was responsible for a team-high five turnovers, the 20 points are the most that Westbrook has scored in a game since January 30. Just as concerning has been the assist tally, with Westbrook dishing out less than five in four of his last five games. That’s an area where his production will suffer due to the presence of LeBron James, and the addition of D.J. Augustin (6/2/4 with two 3-pointers in 19 minutes) will have an impact as well. But if the Lakers are to have any chance of being the threat that many expected them to be before the season began, they’ll need more production out of Westbrook. Hopefully, Saturday’s line represents a step in the right direction.
