The Clippers will have 15 days to match once the offer sheet gets signed next week, so this situation may not be resolved for three weeks. If Maggette signs, he will take over as Denver’s shooting guard and could be a real bargain in fantasy leagues.

Both players practiced yesterday but are still being held out as precautions.

The diagnosis is that Maggette has a second-degree sprain and will be out about a week. He’ll start at small forward for the Clippers this season.

A specialist came to his San Francisco hotel room a few hours before tipoff and worked on his back. It must have worked as Maggette finished with 26 points and six assists, leading Clippers past the Warriors. Maggette said “He did me wonders. Now I’m able to do things. I’m just trying to battle it. I don’t want to sit out.” His back has been bothering him since the preseason and this is an unsettling situation for his owners. You could even consider trading him now while his value is likely as high as it will be.

He appears to be questionable for Sunday’s game.

We have no idea how long “indefinitely” will be, but it sounds like he should be benched for next week until we get more information on his injury and status. Quinton Ross will continue to start in his place.

''We’ll see what he comes up with,’' Dunleavy said. ''Yesterday he did some three-on-three, today he did some five-on-five, so we’ll see how he responds.’' You may want to hold off on activating Maggette until next week.

Maggette is listed as out indefinitely, but that’s just because of the pending results of the exam. The Clippers don’t expect him to miss much time. Still, you may want to consider benching him this week.
