Charles Bassey shot 6-of-11 from the field and 4-of-7 from the foul line in Sunday’s win over the Pelicans, scoring 16 points with 11 rebounds and four blocked shots in 18 minutes.
Under normal circumstances, Bassey would be on the back end of the Spurs’ rotation if he’d play at all. However, with Victor Wembanyama returning from an injury and Zach Collins exiting Sunday’s game with a back injury, Bassey needed to provide reliable value. That’s what he did, recording a double-double and blocking four shots. The Spurs don’t play again until Friday, so there’s no need to add Bassey now. However, if Collins remains sidelined, Charles may be worth a look in deep leagues.
  • SAS Power Forward #23
Zach Collins (back contusion) is out for the remainder of Sunday’s game against the Pelicans.
Minutes after Victor Wembanyama exited Sunday’s game with a potential back injury, Collins landed flat on his back after attempting to challenge a shot at the rim. After being evaluated by team doctors, he’s been ruled out for the rest of Sunday’s game. With Wembanyama’s status still to be determined, Charles Bassey has moved into the Spurs’ rotation.
  • SAS Power Forward #1
Victor Wembanyama (back) has been ruled out for Thursday’s Spurs-Bulls game.
Wembanyama appears to have to have tweaked his back during his double-double performance against the Suns. Zach Collins an Charles Bassey will get a chance t take on larger roles against Chicago.
  • SAS Power Forward #1
Victor Wembanyama (right knee contusion) has been upgraded to probable for Saturday’s game against Golden State.
Wemby has missed the Spurs’ last three games, but he is expected to be back in the lineup against the Warriors. That will return Zach Collins to his usual role off the bench, while Charles Bassey will likely be pushed out of the main rotation.
  • SAS Power Forward #1
Victor Wembanyama (right knee contusion) is questionable for Saturday’s game against the Warriors.
Wemby has missed San Antonio’s last three games, and Zach Collins has replaced him in the starting lineup. Collins’ streaming value takes a significant hit with Wembanyama on the court, while Charles Bassey may drop from the rotation entirely.

Charles Bassey provided a boost off the bench with 11 points (5-of-9 FGs), nine rebounds, one assist, one steal and six blocks against Utah on Thursday.
Bassey wasn’t part of San Antonio’s rotation prior to Victor Wembanyama’s injury, but he has played 23.3 minutes per game during their three games with Wemby sidelined. During this stretch, he has averaged 7.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.0 steal and 3.7 blocks per game. It may be difficult to rely on him for more than blocks, but if Wemby remains out for Saturday’s game against Golden State, Bassey may be worth consideration in deeper leagues.
  • SAS Power Forward #23
Zach Collins (left knee tendinitis) is questionable for Thursday’s game against Utah.
A reliable streaming option with Victor Wembanyama, Collins is also on the injury report for Thursday’s game. Charles Bassey and Sandro Mamukelashvili become more essential options within the Spurs rotation if Collins cannot play. In the case of Bassey, he’s worth a speculative add in deep leagues after tallying 12 points, eight rebounds, one steal, and two blocks in 21 minutes off the bench on Tuesday.

Charles Bassey (torn left ACL) has been fully cleared to participate in training camp.
Bassey appeared in 19 games for the Spurs last season before a torn ACL put him on the shelf. The 2021-second-round pick agreed to a one-year deal with the Spurs in July, but he is not expected to figure prominently in the frontcourt rotation. There’s no need to consider drafting Bassey.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports that Charles Bassey has signed with the Spurs on a one-year, $2.2 million deal.
Bassey logged just under 11 minutes per tilt across 19 appearances for the Spurs before tearing his ACL last season. He’s expected back at some point during the first half of the 2024-25 campaign, but he won’t be worth a look in fantasy.

The Spurs announced on Monday that they have waived Charles Bassey.
The Spurs needed to waive Bassey before the three-team deal between themselves, Sacramento, and Chicago could be completed. The 2021 second-round pick missed most of last season with a torn ACL, and the Spurs are reportedly interested in re-signing Bassey if he clears waivers.
