Channing Frye started for the Cavs on Sunday, posting five points, four rebounds, one assist and two turnovers in 16 minutes.
Frye recently announced that he’ll retire after this season, so Cleveland is giving him a warm farewell. Every player wore his number on their warmup outfits, he got the token start at center, and the fans erupted when he opened the game with a 3-pointer. Even if he does start again on Tuesday, this is more of a feel-good story than a DFS opportunity.

Channing Frye is set to retire following the 2018/19 season, which will be his 13th and final season.
Frye said that his vacation over the All-Star break is what cemented his decision to hang it up. He spent time with his family and wants to continue doing so as they grow up. Frye wanted to retire a Cavalier, with whom he was a member of the 2015/16 NBA championship team.
  • CLE Center #9
Channing Frye scored four points with one rebound, two assists and one steal in 14 minutes against the Jazz on Friday.
Frye saw time for the first time in four games with Tristan Thompson (foot) sitting out. The veteran big man is buried on the bench and has very little fantasy value.
  • CLE Center #13
Tristan Thompson (left foot soreness) has been ruled out of Friday’s game vs. the Jazz.
Thompson missed most of December due to a foot injury, and the tanking Cavs may rest him periodically over the second half of the season. Friday is the front end of a back-to-back for Cleveland. With both Thompson and Larry Nance (knee) sidelined, Channing Frye and Ante Zizic will soak up plenty of extra minutes. On Wednesday, Zizic scored 16 points with eight rebounds, two blocks and one assist in a career-high 27 minutes.
  • NBA Center #41
Ante Zizic made 5-of-8 field goals and 6-of-7 free throws vs. Portland on Wednesday, scoring 16 points with eight rebounds, two blocks and one assist.
Zizic played 27 minutes and that matches his career-high for playing time in any game, including the preseason. The only other time he’d logged 27 minutes was the Cavs’ regular-season finale vs. the Knicks last year, when Zizic scored 20 points with seven boards. He may not see this many minutes often, in other words, but the tanking Cavs also have no incentive to play Tristan Thompson, Channing Frye, Larry Nance or Kevin Love.
  • CLE Center #9
Channing Frye made a start at power forward against the Pelicans on Wednesday with three points, one rebound, one assist and one 3-pointer in 11 minutes.
OK, then. Coach Larry Drew has an affinity for Frye, but fantasy owners should not. Even with Larry Nance (knee) likely out for a bit, Frye is not worth adding in just about all leagues.
  • CLE Center #13
Tristan Thompson (foot) and Channing Frye will be in the starting lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Pelicans.
Thompson is dealing with some soreness in his foot, but it won’t be enough to keep him off the court, and Frye gets the starting nod with Larry Nance Jr. (knee) unavailable. Joining these two in the starting unit will be Collin Sexton, Alec Burks and Cedi Osman.
  • CLE Center #9
Channing Frye is listed as a starter vs. New Orleans on Wednesday.
Larry Nance (knee) is out tonight and the Cavs have few alternatives, so they’ll go with Nance in a very tough matchup vs. the Pelicans.
  • CLE Center #9
Channing Frye logged three minutes with two missed shots against the Heat on Wednesday.
He’ll be out of the rotation while Tristan Thompson and Larry Nance are active. Leave Frye on the wire.
  • CLE Center #13
Tristan Thompson (foot) is being listed as questionable for Wednesday’s game against the Heat.
This is the first time that Thompson has been hit with the questionable tag since going down with the foot injury, and he said after shootaround that he’ll be ready if his number is called, so it sounds like he’ll be available to play tonight. If he is able to play, he’ll likely be limited in his first game back from a three-week absence, but his return will cut into Channing Frye and Larry Nance’s minutes.
