The Bulls could go into the season with six of their 12 active roster spots belonging to rookies.
Andres Nocioni, Luol Deng, Ben Gordon, Chris Duhon and Jared Reiner will make the squad, and Tommy Smith has an outside shot of being the sixth. No. 3 overall pick Gordon has been a disappointment this preseason. Tyson Chandler, Eddy Curry, and Kirk Hinrich will have to become veteran leaders in a hurry. Nocioni and Deng are expected to start alongside them.

It looks like Ben Gordon will remain in the starting lineup for the Bulls, at least in the short term.
Coach Scott Skiles said “I certainly hope I don’t get in a situation where I’m changing the lineup all the time. I’ve never seen in the league where that’s healthy.” For the second consecutive game, Gordon started alongside Kirk Hinrich, Andres Nocioni, Othella Harrington and Tyson Chandler. However, Gordon lasted just over three minutes before picking up his second foul and being replaced by Luol Deng. Deng appears to have much more value than Gordon thus far, but if Nocioni’s back injury keeps him out, Gordon could make a big impact.

Ben Gordon sat out practice with a mild back sprain he suffered in the first half of Monday’s victory.
“It feels like a pinched nerve, and the pain was aggravating my back,” Gordon said. “When I get real active, it acts up. I don’t think it will keep me from playing.” Chris Duhon could see a few extra minutes if Gordon is tight.

Ben Gordon has fallen back to earth, with 7.3 points on 27.2 percent shooting and 17 minutes in his last four games.
Gordon runs hot and cold, but is worth holding on fantasy rosters for his next hot streak.
  • CHI Shooting Guard #7
If Ben Gordon can maintain his 44.6 shooting percentage from 3-point territory, he will set the rookie record in the category.
Wesley Person is the current record holder at 43.6 percent for the Suns in 1994-95.
  • CHI Shooting Guard #7
Despite his reliable scoring and fourth-quarter heroics, Ben Gordon shouldn’t expect to see much of an increase from his 23.2 minutes per game.
The reasons: the rookie is sixth in the league in turnovers per 48 minutes at 4.67, and is beaten defensively too often. The Bulls are running a true time share at the two with starter Chris Duhon (24.2 mpg) backed up by Gordon. Combine their numbers, and you get 48 minutes of shooting guard averaging 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.6 assists, and 1.51 steals.

Ben Gordon led the Bulls with 23 points in last night’s win over Portland.
He scored on a wide variety of jumpers and tough, driving layups. He’s scored over 20 three times this month while shooting 16-of-31 from behind the arc. He’s not contributing much in the non-scoring categories yet, but his improved play is a big part of the Bulls’ four-game winning streak.

A Chicago Bulls mascot dressed in a bright red costume was charged with attacking an off-duty officer after driving a mini-motorcycle through an outdoor festival.
Barry Anderson, the Benny the Bull mascot, was charged with misdemeanor battery and driving within a parkway. The 26-year-old man is accused of throwing a punch at the sheriff’s deputy, knocking off his glasses and breaking his watch before making a run for it. With the Ben Wallace story the talk of the town in Chicago, little will be made about the other “Benny the Bull.” This is just another example of why you don’t run from the police. Especially when you’re wearing a bright red Bull costume.

Ben Gordon (groin) is listed as questionable for Friday’s game against the Bulls.
With Rodney Stuckey sustaining a hamstring injury Wednesday night, a healthy Gordon would be an intriguing spot-start option. In 18 starts this season, he’s averaged 16.1 points and 1.8 3-pointers. However, both Gordon and Stuckey could end up as true game-time calls, making it a hairy situation for fantasy owners.
  • DET Shooting Guard #2
Rodney Stuckey left Wednesday’s game in the first quarter with a sore left hamstring and will not return.
Will Bynum replaced him in the lineup, and fantasy owners have to hope this isn’t as bad as it sounds. We’ll call him day-to-day for now, but with Stuckey’s injury and Ben Gordon’s groin injury, Bynum could have a big game tonight.
