Awvee Storey might have the inside track since he’s already on the team. The Nets worked out Matt Carroll and Troy Bell yesterday, and will look at Marcus Haislip, Britton Johnsen, and Tremaine Fowlkes today.

Gilbert Arenas, who came to his aid, was also arrested and was charged with resisting without violence.

Storey, who will be making his NBA debut, could see some minutes at small forward if Richard Jefferson continues to start at shooting guard.

Storey played on the Bucks’ summer league team in Las Vegas last month and impressed with his versatility, toughness and rebounding. “I think we’re moving toward a deal,’’ said Mark Bartelstein, Storey’s agent. “Hopefully, by Monday, we’ll have it wrapped up.’’ Storey is probably best known for being suspended and then dismissed from his NBDL team (Dakota Wizards) after punching teammate Martynas Andriuskevicius in practice. Andriuskevicius suffered a skull fracture and concussion and was placed in intensive care in a Bismarck , N.D. hospital.

Storey averaged 11 points and 4.2 rebounds in five summer league games. “Awvee is a hard-nosed, aggressive player who brings depth to our roster at the guard and small forward positions,” GM Larry Harris said in a statement. “He’s an excellent athlete and a solid defender who will be a good addition to our team.” He won’t, however, be a good addition to your fantasy team.

Michael Redd (knee), Yi Jianlian (shoulder), Awvee Storey (flu) and Ramon Sessions (fractured hand) were also out for the Bucks on Wednesday. Yi says he’s going to play on Saturday against the Knicks, but no word yet on a return date for Redd. Charlie Bell, who played well on Tuesday, started in Simmons’ place again.
