Ariel Hukporti amassed six points (3-of-6 FGs), five rebounds, and two assists in 17 minutes in Saturday’s 94-90 loss to the Hornets.
Selected with the final pick of the 2024 NBA Draft, Hukporti started his summer league debut on Saturday. He was solid as a rebounder, but the more experienced Dmytro Skapintsev (nine points, seven rebounds, two assists, and one blocked shot in 20 minutes) played more minutes off the bench. Hukporti is on a two-way contract, and the Knicks not filling the void left by Isaiah Hartenstein at this point in the offseason could open the door for Ariel to fight for rotation minutes, especially if New York does not re-sign Precious Achiuwa.
  • The Mavericks selected Ariel Hukporti selected Ariel Hukporti with the No. 58 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
The 6-foot-11, 246-pound Hukporti has played for multiple teams since turning pro in 2018, most recently representing MHP Riesen in Germany. He also spent time with Melbourne United in Australia’s NBL last season, appearing in 55 games and averaging 8.4 points and 7.0 rebounds. A high-energy center with good size, Hukporti’s strengths are rebounding, the two-man game, and rim protection. Despite being 22 years old, his offensive repertoire needs some refining. The Mavericks selected Hukporti, but he will be headed to the Knicks. If New York loses Isaiah Hartenstein in free agency, Hukporti could provide additional depth in the post if he isn’t stashed overseas. However, fantasy managers should not have high expectations for him if the rookie comes over for the 2024-25 season.
