Jalen Suggs participated in running portions of Tuesday’s practice, but he was withheld from taking contact.
Suggs missed nine games before the All-Star break but, while this update may seem encouraging, the fact that he’s still not taking contact after such an extended break casts serious doubt on his availability this week. Orlando plays a back-to-back set on Thursday and Friday against the Hawks and Grizzlies before wrapping up the week against the Wizards on Sunday. Cole Anthony and Anthony Black should continue to see increased minutes for as long as Suggs is sidelined.
  • ORL Point Guard #0
Anthony Black amassed 18 points (8-of-13 FGs, 0-of-1 FTs), four rebounds, three assists, one steal, two blocks, and two 3-pointers in 24 minutes in Wednesday’s win over the Hornets.
While the production has been inconsistent, Black has reached double figures in three of his last six outings. The second-year guard had a good night shooting the ball against the Hornets and recorded a complete stat line. Black can be a factor defensively, but his fantasy ceiling is low due to the lackluster offensive production. Hopefully, nights like Wednesday can be closer to the norm after the All-Star break.
  • ORL Point Guard #4
Jalen Suggs (quad) is out for Wednesday’s game against the Hornets.
No surprise here as Suggs was initially listed as doubtful with a left quad contusion. The 23-year-old point guard is set to miss his ninth straight game due to the injury. Cole Anthony and Anthony Black should continue to handle the point guard minutes for the Magic. While Anthony has started the past four games, Black has been more productive.
  • ORL Point Guard #4
Jalen Suggs (quad) is doubtful for Wednesday’s matchup with the Hornets.
Suggs is headed for a ninth straight absence which means Cole Anthony should remain with the first unit. Anthony replaced Anthony Black in the starting lineup four games ago, but the latter has been more productive.
  • ORL Point Guard #4
Jalen Suggs (quad) is out for Monday’s game against the Hawks.
Suggs will miss an eighth straight game with a left quad contusion. Cole Anthony has started the last three games and should remain in that role because his offensive production is superior to Anthony Black’s.
  • ORL Point Guard #4
Jalen Suggs (quad) is doubtful for Sunday’s matchup with Atlanta.
Suggs will presumably be sidelined for an eighth-straight game, which means Cole Anthony and Anthony Black will pick up the slack in his absence.
  • ORL Point Guard #0
Anthony Black had 20 points (8-of-9 FGs), one rebound, one assist, two steals and three 3-pointers against the Spurs on Saturday.
Black continues to help fill in the point guard minutes while Jalen Suggs has been out with a quad injury. The 21-year-old point guard came off the bench Saturday and had 20 points on nine shots in 27 minutes. Black hadn’t scored at least 20 points in a game since December 19 so fantasy managers shouldn’t chase this outlier game from a player who will likely be squeezed for minutes once Suggs returns.
  • ORL Point Guard #4
Jalen Suggs (quad) is out for Thursday’s game against the Nuggets.
No surprise here as Suggs was initially listed as doubtful with a quad injury. The 23-year-old point guard is set to miss his sixth-straight game. Cole Anthony and Anthony Black will continue to fill in for Suggs at the point guard position for Orlando.
  • ORL Point Guard #4
Jalen Suggs (quad) is doubtful to play against the Nuggets on Thursday.
Suggs is on track to miss a sixth straight game due to this left quad contusion, and he has only suited up once over the past month. Cole Anthony and Anthony Black will continue to fill out the point guard minutes for the Magic with Suggs sidelined.
  • ORL Shooting Guard #3
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (hamstring) is questionable to play against Denver on Thursday.
KCP logged 22 minutes in their win in Sacramento on Wednesday night, and now there is a chance that he sits out the second leg of this back-to-back. This is their first back-to-back set since early January, but KCP was able to play in both of those games. That doesn’t guarantee that he will suit up in his return to Denver. He spent the last two seasons there and helped them win a championship in 2023. If Caldwell-Pope sits out, Anthony Black and Tristan da Silva will be candidates to move into the starting unit, with both of them taking on extra minutes.
