O’Neill believes that Williams will eventually come around, saying it has been a combination of his sore right ankle and lagging confidence that has Williams off to a bad start. The coach may be right, but that doesn’t mean Williams wouldn’t benefit from a few games off.

Williams is coming off surgery but thinks he will be back in his starting point guard role. Having Williams, Jalen Rose and Vince Carter allows Rod Strickland to come off the bench along with Morris Peterson, giving the Raptors a ton depth at guard. Williams reported minor discomfort after practice yesterday but said only a major setback today would keep him out of the lineup.

Williams’ knee has bothered him throughout camp, and he might end up needing surgery. If it happens, Rafer Alston’s value would get a boost.

Williams is considering undergoing surgery, which could sideline him for the rest of the season.

Williams doesn’t have much cartilage left in the knee, and he thinks an operation that will sideline him for six months is inevitable. There’s a chance he could make it until next summer, but it’s looking less likely each day.

Williams still seems likely to undergo season-ending knee surgery. Moiso was placed on the injured list with the hamstring injury that caused him to miss four preseason games. Sow has left knee tendinitis.

The Raptors used just seven players tonight. Rafer Alston started at point guard and had 19 points and seven assists.

It looks like Rafer Alston will get 35 minutes per game for the rest of the year.
