Villanova guard Allan Ray has agreed to play for the Celtics’ summer league team.
He went undrafted, but Danny Ainge says he should have been. Ainge also feels like Ray has a realistic chance of making the C’s roster next season. Ray is probably best known for having his eye poked out of its socket last year, which can be seen at Youtube.com if you’re into that kind of thing.
  • BOS Shooting Guard
Allan Ray could be squeezed out of his roster spot in Boston.
The team must exercise the option on his contract by August 1, but with Gabe Pruitt looking very good in Summer League, Ray could find himself out of a job. He doesn’t seem worried. “I don’t really think about that,” he said. “You can look at the other players there, but last year, we had a lot of guards and I wound up staying. Anything can happen,” Ray said.
  • BOS Shooting Guard
Allan Ray will play in Italy after agreeing to a two-year contract with Serie A team Lottomatica Roma worth $2 million, a league source said yesterday.
Ray would have earned $687,456 with the Celtics next season, so the move makes sense. With the addition of shooting guard Ray Allen, the other Ray became expendable. The Celtics will have the maximum 15 players under contract next season if they sign second-round picks Glen Davis and Gabe Pruitt.

Coach Doc Rivers said that rookie Allen Ray might be going down to the Developmental League in the near future.
When asked about Ray going to the D-League, Rivers added: “I think that could happen. Right now, we need enough guys to have a practice, so we’re not sending anyone down.” The rookie has scored just one point in limited minutes in two games.
  • BOS Shooting Guard
Allan Ray scored 17 points off the bench for the Celtics on Friday.
He hit 6-of-12 shots and three 3-pointers on the night, and is flirting with having some fantasy value in deeper leagues. We don’t think he’s playable in most leagues, but he’s worth keeping an eye on. He’s scored 17 or more points in three of his last six games, but a total of just nine points in the other three.
  • BOS Shooting Guard
Celtics guard Allan Ray started in place of Delonte West (ankle) for Friday’s contest with Miami.
This likely means that West won’t play at all. Ray could be a decent interim option given all of Boston’s injuries.
  • BOS Shooting Guard
Allan Ray exploded for a career-high 22 points on 6-of-9 shooting, and hit three 3-pointers late in a Celtics’ rally Monday against the Hawks.
They came up on the short end of the stick today against the Hawks, but Ray is a guy who could have some value in deep leagues for the depleted Celtics. However, we need to see a few more games like this before buying in.
  • BOS Shooting Guard
The Celtics are going to experiment with several different rotations the rest of the way and Doc Rivers says that Allan Ray will get more minutes at point guard.
We doubt Ray will start many games and assume that Rajon Rondo will hold onto that job, but you never know. It’s doubtful Ray will have much fantasy value going forward, but he’s worth keeping an eye on.
  • NBA Point Guard #1
Rajon Rondo saw his minutes cut drastically on Friday, playing just 14 and scoring two points in a tough loss to Dallas.
Allan Ray came off the bench for eight point and two assists in 22 minutes, while Rondo was likely benched after his four early turnovers. Doc Rivers is going to be experimenting with many different rotations and tonight it was Rondo who took the hit.
  • BOS Shooting Guard
Allan Ray scored 12 points (5-for-10 shooting) in 18 minutes off the bench on Wednesday.
With Delonte West out and Sebastian Telfair and Tony Allen in early foul trouble, Ray was given a chance to play decent minutes and he proved he can help the Celtics. He has no fantasy value at this time, but an effort like this should earn him looks more often.
