Pistons sign guard Alex Acker to a rookie contract.
He has a chance at making the roster for training camp, but making the team this year is a longshot for the Pepperdine grad.
  • LAC Shooting Guard
Alex Acker will play in Greece next year, agreeing to a one-year deal with Olympiakos.
He appeared in just five games for the Pistons last year, but they’ll still hold his rights and could bring him back next season. Acker will replace former NBA player, Tyus Edney on the roster for Olympiakos.
  • BKN Point Guard #21
Greivis Vasquez came off the bench on Thursday and scored two points on 1-of-4 shooting, grabbed four boards and had four assists in 15 minutes.
Brian Roberts got the start and had a nice night with 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting with eight assists. Vasquez is still expected to be the starting point guard and is going extremely late in drafts considering he shoots the three and had 0.9 steals per game last year.
  • UTA Coaching Staff
Avery Bradley is “very close” to returning to practice.
It’s too bad he’s not ready to go right now because it would appear the Celtics are going to be without Rajon Rondo due to a suspension. Bradley could sabotage the recent increase in Jason Terry’s stock and we would feel comfortable leaving Bradley on the wire in all but the deepest of leagues.
  • SAS Center #21
Tim Duncan (knee) is considered doubtful to play again on Friday.
Duncan didn’t really have much of a chance to play on Friday and the Spurs will treat him with kid gloves until he’s 100 percent healthy. Likely without Duncan and Manu Ginobili (hamstring, doubtful), the Spurs will be led by Tony Parker and get ample help from guys like Boris Diaw, Danny Green and Kawhi Leonard.
  • BOS Small Forward #34
Paul Pierce shot 9-of-16 from the field for 23 points to go with seven boards, eight assists, one block and one 3-pointer during Sunday’s 92-86 loss to the Blazers.
After a frigid 20-day span, Pierce is heating up over his last three games shooting a combined 21-of-38 from the field. He is the focal point on Boston’s offense and has really made guys like Avery Bradley (eight points, three assists and one steal in 35 minutes), Courtney Lee (five points, two boards and two assists in 26 minutes) and Jason Terry (four points in 19 minutes) obsolete in most standard-league situations.
  • NBA Point Guard #34
Devin Harris (foot) is a game-time decision vs. the Celtics on Friday.
Harris would miss his third straight if he doesn’t play on Friday. Without him, expect Jeff Teague to soak up most of the time at point guard with guys like Kyle Korver and DeShawn Stevenson helping to fill the void.
  • CHA Point Guard #9
Tony Parker (neck) will not play against the Nuggets on Wednesday.
He was a game-time call and he should be considered questionable for Friday’s game against the Kings. Parker has a slew of injuries and it certainly adds up that the cautious Gregg Popovich is opting to rest his star point guard. Gary Neal and Cory Joseph figure to replace Parker the most, but it’s never easy to tell when it comes to the Spurs.
  • LAC Shooting Guard
Alex Acker is competing with Ronald Dupree for the Pistons final roster spot.
The Pistons are expected to make their final roster cuts by this weekend. With Lindsey Hunter out indefinitely while recovering from surgery on his left ankle, Acker could land a role and serve as the temporary No. 3 point guard.
  • Chris Richard got another start for the Timberwolves on Saturday, finishing with four points and eight rebounds in 19 minutes.
Richard isn’t going to have fantasy value anytime soon, and we’re not quite sure why Randy Wittman is still starting him over Antoine Walker and Craig Smith.
