Moritz Wagner accumulated 19 points (8-of-14 FGs, 1-of-2 FTs), 11 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two 3-pointers in Friday’s 122-120 win over the Nuggets.
With Goga Bitadze (illness) and Wendell Carter Jr. (knee) sidelined, Wagner moved into the starting lineup and shouldered most of the workload in the middle. He held his own against two-time MVP Nikola Jokic, recording a double-double while shooting better than 50% from the field. Wagner being able to avoid serious foul trouble was critical, as Admiral Schofield (five points, one rebound, one assist, and one 3-pointer in nine minutes) was the only other “center” available (Schofield is 6-foot-5). Orlando ends its week with a home game against the Hawks on Sunday; Wagner would be in line for another start if Bitadze and Carter remain sidelined.
