CONCORD, N.C. – In his first NASCAR practice after missing nearly three months with a broken right leg and fractured left foot, Kyle Busch was up to speed.
The Joe Gibbs Racing driver led the only practice for Saturday’s Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, turning a 188.884-mph lap on the 1.5-mile oval in his No. 18 Toyota. Busch has been sidelined since being injured in a Feb. 22 crash during the Xfinity Series season opener at Daytona International Speedway.
Jamie McMurray, Kevin Harvick, Kurt Busch and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top five for the exhibition event, which will feature race winners, past champions and past All-Star Race winners. The 20-driver field also will include the winners of two segments in Saturday’s Sprint Showdown and the top vote-getter in a fan poll.
Qualifying for the All-Star Race will take place Saturday night.
