Kasey Kahne took the blame on Twitter for his contact with Danica Patrick that sent her car into the wall during Sunday’s Auto Club 400.
Patrick, who was running in 19th and on the lead lap, was uninjured, but she was disappointed with Kahne’s action and noted that he was down a lap.
After the race, Kahne said he had “went just to kind of catch a side draft to make sure I was in position getting into Turn 1. ... I felt really bad because it was far from anything than just trying to hold my position. I’ve never had an issue with Danica at all. It was an avoidable accident.”
Kahne wrote on Twitter a few hours later:
Feel really bad about what happened today with Danica. I'm glad she was ok! That should have never happened and that was all on me.

NASCAR ordered Kahne to meet with series officials after the race to explain his incident with Patrick.
Kahne finished 28th. Patrick finished 38th.
