Dale Earnhardt Jr. traveled to Germany on the Sprint Cup Series off-week to research his family history. He made some family news of his own.
The 12-time most popular driver got engaged Wednesday to longtime girlfriend Amy Reimann while on vacation. She posted the news on Twitter via a photo of the couple in a Lutheran church where Earnhardt had tweeted that his family had attended seven generations and 300 years ago.
I'm completely overwhelmed with love & joy. Happiest girl in the world! I love you so much @DaleJr pic.twitter.com/lBxbFLJ4xf

The couple has been dating since 2009. Earnhardt had joked in February on The Dan Patrick Show that a jewelry phobia was “the biggest holdup for me getting married.” At Daytona 500 Media Day, Earnhardt said Reimann understood if he wouldn’t be wearing a wedding ring after tying the knot.
Looking forward to the rest of my life with this amazing girl. https://t.co/EuGZbCVynM

Earnhardt Jr.'s older sister, Kelley Earnhardt Miller, also was on the trip to Germany with the couple, and she was one of several in the NASCAR community to offer congratulations on the the news (including Hendrick Motorsports general manager Doug Duchardt).
Adding another sis-in-law to the family! Happy for my brother and his future bride! Herzlichen Glückwunsch! https://t.co/CH7nzMTDBl

The engagement was the latest news in a vacation that Earnhardt has been tweeting from prodigiously. The Hendrick Motorsports driver has been exploring the country and the town where his family emigrated from in 1744.
