  • Left Fielder #78
Yoelqui Céspedes had three hits and three RBI for Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.
Céspedes was a big disappointment in hitting .214/.315/.326 in a second year at Double-A Birmingham, but since moving up to Triple-A last week, he’s gone 12-for-30 with a homer and six doubles. The 25-year-old seems like a long shot to turn into a quality major leaguer at this point, but at least it looks like he’ll have something to build on here going into a make-or-break 2024.
  • CWS Shortstop #50
White Sox optioned INF Lenyn Sosa and C Carlos Perez to Triple-A Charlotte; optioned INF’s Bryan Ramos and Jose Rodriguez to Double-A Birmingham.
The club also reassigned OF Yoelquis Cespedes, RHP Edgar Navarro and LHPs Nate Fisher, Andrew Perez and Sammy Peralta to minor league camp. There were no real surprises among this batch of cuts, as Sosa’s chances of cracking the Opening Day roster were crushed when the club re-signed Elvis Andrus. The White Sox are now down to 50 players remaining on the big league side of spring camp.

  • Left Fielder #99
White Sox OF prospect Yoelqui Céspedes went 2-for-5 with two homers on Sunday for Double-A Birmingham.
Céspedes picked up his first two homers of the season in the contest. The younger brother of Yoenis Céspedes, Yoelqui isn’t the same kind of talent as his older brother, but there’s a lot to like thanks to above-average power potential with a speed grade that isn’t far behind. He also has a strong arm like big bro, although not quite the cannon Yoenis had. Céspedes can be a regular, and because of the pop/wheels, he has a chance to be a fantasy helper. He could help Chicago before this season comes to an end.

  • CWS Relief Pitcher #58
White Sox optioned RHP Jimmy Lambert to Triple-A Charlotte; reassigned LHPs Tanner Banks, Wes Benjamin, Brandon Finnegan and Andrew Pérez, RHPs Caleb Freeman, Tyler Johnson and Yacksel Ríos and OF Yoelqui Céspedes to minor league camp.
The second round of White Sox’ cuts includes some notable names as they have 42 players left in camp this spring. Céspedes made some serious noise in the Cactus League and appears to be on the precipice of making an impact in the big leagues, possibly as soon as later this season.

  • Left Fielder #99
Yoelqui Céspedes homered on Saturday in a Cactus League loss to the White Sox.
It’s the second homer of the spring for the younger brother of Yoenis. The 24-year-old isn’t quite the talent of big bro, but there is fantasy upside in his bat. He could help Chicago before the end of the year, but it likely would take injuries, trades or a monster start to his 2022 season for it to happen. Maybe all three.

  • Left Fielder #99
Yoelqui Céspedes went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer on Thursday against the Cubs in a split-squad Cactus League affair.
Céspedes drilled a two-run homer to left-center field in the second inning and also singled in the fourth inning before being picked off first base. The 24-year-old outfielder signed with the White Sox last January and proceeded to hit .285/.350/.463 with eight homers and 18 stolen bases between High-A Winston-Salem and Double-A Birmingham. He has a realistic shot at forcing his way to the majors later this year.

  • Left Fielder #99
White Sox outfield prospect Yoelqui Cespedes has been added to the active roster at High-A Winston-Salem.
Cespedes has finally received his visa and will begin the 2021 campaign at High-A before eventually jumping to Double-A Birmingham at some point later this summer. The 23-year-old outfielder is a half-brother of former major leaguer Yoenis Cespedes. He signed a minor-league deal with the White Sox during the offseason, which included a $2.05 million signing bonus. He’s expected to move quickly through their minor-league system.

White Sox OF prospect Yoelqui Cespedes is still awaiting visa approval so that he can join up with Double-A Birmingham.
But he is getting in work at the team’s spring training complex in Arizona and there is optimism that the situation will be sorted out by the end of this month, per James Fegan of The Athletic. Chicago signed Cespedes out of Cuba this winter for a bonus of $2.05 million. The 23-year-old outfielder is a half-brother of Yoenis Cespedes. He could move fairly quickly through the minors once he’s cleared for pro ball.

White Sox signed OF Yoelqui Cespedes to a minor league contract.
Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com first reported that Cespedes would receive a $2.05 million signing bonus and the team has now made the deal official. Yoenis’ half-brother, Yoelqui is ranked by MLB.com as the No. 1 international prospect, although Baseball America has him lower as the No. 12 prospect. Cespedes is 23, so it might not be too long before we see him in the majors if the Cuban gets off to a hot start.

Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com reports that the White Sox are expected to sign Cuban outfielder Yoelqui Céspedes.
The deal is expected to be around $2 million and will likely be finalized on January 15, 2021, which is the first day of the international signing period. Céspedes, 23, is the younger half-brother of Yoenis Céspedes and has been considered the No. 1 international prospect due to his five-tool ability. He defected from the Cuban National Team in June of 2019 before establishing residency in the Bahamas. It’s tough to compare the 5-foot-9 Céspedes to his brother, but he’s reportedly packed on more muscle since defecting. The White Sox have a long history with Cuban players, so it’s no surprise to see him end up here.
