Toronto acquired Rodriguez in a trade with Texas at the end of June. He had a 6.88 ERA in 12 appearances with the Rangers. Rodriguez allowed one run in five innings at Triple-A Buffalo, but had a troubling SO:BB of 8:9. Ryan Burr was optioned to the minors in a corresponding move.

Blue Jays acquired RHP Yerry Rodríguez in a trade with the Rangers for RHP Josh Mollerus.
Rodríguez will head to Triple-A Buffalo. The 26-year-old right-hander was designated for assignment after an ugly 7.11 ERA and 28/17 K/BB in his 31 2/3 innings with Texas over the last two seasons. The Blue Jays will hope to unlock his potential, but he’s not likely to be more than organizational depth at this stage.
  • TEX Relief Pitcher #57
Rangers designated RHP Yerry Rodríguez for assignment.
Rodríguez, 26, looked like he might turn into a quality reliever a couple of years ago, but he has a 7.11 ERA and a 28/17 K/BB in 31 2/3 innings for the Rangers since making his major league debut in 2022, and his minor league numbers haven’t been very good, either. With his velocity having declined some, it’s possible he’ll clear waivers. Still, since he can be stashed in Triple-A, it seems more likely that a rebuilding club will give him a look.

Rodríguez heads back to the minors with veteran Max Scherzer coming off the injured list on Sunday to make his season debut. The 26-year-old righty has struggled to an inflated 6.88 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 12/11 K/BB ratio across 17 innings (12 appearances) this season in the big leagues.
