Padres optioned RHP Woo-Suk Go and C Brett Sullivan to Triple-A El Paso.
The 25-year-old hurler inked a two-year, $4.5 million contract in early January after a run as one of the top closers in the Korea Baseball Organization. He struggled in Cactus League action though — posting a 12.46 ERA, 2.31 WHIP and a 5/2 K/BB ratio across 4 1/3 innings. He’ll get an opportunity to pitch out of the big league bullpen soon enough, they just want to get him back on track first.

Woo-Suk Go fanned two in a scoreless inning on Thursday in his Cactus League debut against the Athletics.
Go inked a two-year, $4.5 million pact in early January to join San Diego’s bullpen after a highly successful run as one of the best closers in Korea. The 25-year-old righty is unlikely to operate in the ninth inning right away for the Padres, but it wouldn’t be shocking to see him get a look at some point if he excels in his stateside debut.

Padres signed RHP Woo Suk Go to a two-year, $4.5 million contract with a $3 million mutual option for 2026.
The deal is now official. Go figures to be in the mix for saves right away in San Diego along with hard-throwing righty Robert Suarez and Japanese southpaw Yuki Matsui. The 25-year-old righty heads to the Padres after spending the last seven seasons as a relief ace for the LG Twins of the Korea Baseball Organization, compiling 139 saves along with a strong 3.18 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 401/163 K/BB ratio across 368 1/3 innings (354 appearances). He’ll be worth monitoring closely in spring training to determine where he falls in San Diego’s late-inning pecking order.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports the Padres and Korean right-hander Woo Suk Go are in agreement on a two-year, $4.5 million contract.
We’re not sure how San Diego’s crowded closing situation is going to play out entering the 2024 campaign. The Padres have several options in the late-innings including hard-throwing righty Robert Suarez, who signed a five-year, $46 million contract last offseason to return to San Diego, and newly-signed Japanese southpaw Yuki Matsui, who inked a five-year, $28 million pact just a few weeks ago. Go figures to be in the mix for saves right away for San Diego after posting 139 saves along with a strong 3.18 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 401/163 K/BB ratio across 368 1/3 innings (354 appearances) over the last seven seasons for the LG Twins of the Korea Baseball Organization.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the Padres are close to an agreement with Korean right-hander Woo-Suk Go.
Heyman notes that the 25-year-old hurler is expected to step in as the Padres’ closer. Go posted a 3.68 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and a 59/22 K/BB ratio across 44 innings in his 44 appearances for the LG Twins during the 2023 campaign. Go has compiled 139 saves over the past five seasons, so he has plenty of experience in the ninth inning. If he does wind up closing, he’ll gain immediate relevancy for fantasy purposes, while the value of Robert Suarez and Yuki Matsui would take a big hit.
  • INT Relief Pitcher
The Korea Baseball Organization has officially asked Major League Baseball to post right-hander Woo-Suk Go.
The 25-year-old hurler is the brother-in-law of slugger Jung Hoo Lee who will also be posted this winter. Go registered a 3.68 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and a 59/22 K/BB ratio over 44 frames in 44 appearances for the LG Twins during the 2023 season. Over the past five seasons, he has accumulated 139 saves and could be viewed as an intriguing high-leverage reliever for interested MLB clubs.
  • INT Relief Pitcher
Korean reliever Woo-Suk Go will be conditionally posted by the LG Twins in the coming days.
It’s conditional in that the Twins will be able to retain him if they don’t get the posting fee they desire. Go, 25, has been very successful for the Twins, racking up 139 saves with a 2.39 ERA over the last five years. Major league teams will likely view him as a quality setup man, though whether that will lead to the kind of contract that will satisfy the LG Twins is hard to say.
