    Difo is merely extra organizational depth at this stage of his career after spending all of last year at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Yankees’ system. The 32-year-old journeyman has appeared in 492 games in the big leagues dating back to 2015.

    It’s not the news that everyone has been waiting for regarding which infielders are remaining with the big league club, but it does clear a few more bodies out of camp for the Yankees. The former top prospect will function as depth at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to begin the season.

    The 30-year-old will make $1.2 million if he makes the big league roster. Difo spent most of the 2022 season at Triple-A Reno where he slashed .269/.312/.398 with seven homers, 43 RBI and four swipes in 306 plate appearances. He’ll add infield depth for the Bombers.

    Robert Murray of FanSided reports that the Yankees have agreed to sign infielder Wilmer Difo.
    The Yankees have yet to confirm, but it’s reportedly a split-contract that will pay him $1.2 million if he’s in the majors. Difo, 30, is a .250/.311/.353 career hitter in the majors and spent the bulk of last season with the Diamondbacks’ Triple-A affiliate. He’ll give the Yankees some depth around the infield going into 2023.

    Wilmer Difo has elected free agency.
    Difo will test the free agent waters after refusing an outright assignment to Triple-A Reno. The 30-year-old infielder went unclaimed on waivers last week after being designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks. He got into three games earlier this month for Arizona, going hitless in six at-bats.

    It appears to be a scheduled day off for Rojas, who has made eight consecutive starts for the Diamondbacks since September 1. The versatile 28-year-old infielder has eight homers and a career-high 19 stolen bases in 105 games this season. It’ll be Emmanuel Rivera at the hot corner and Wilmer Difo taking over at second base on Saturday night at Coors Field.
