Will Vest closed out the Twins on Sunday night, working a scoreless ninth inning to protect a three-run advantage.
Vest wasn’t messing around in this one, getting Matt Wallner on a fly ball to left field, Byron Buxton on a swinging third strike and Ryan Jeffers on a ground ball to shortstop. Vest needed only eight pitches (six strikes) to get the job done. On the season, the 30-year-old right-hander boasts a 2.37 ERA and a 42/10 K/BB ratio over 38 innings to go with 13 saves and five victories.

Will Vest said he’s ready to pitch after tests on his fingers came back fine.
Vest lost some feeling in his last two fingers on a pitch in Sunday’s outings, causing him to depart, but he said everything is back to normal now. He could return to the mound against the Pirates tonight.

Will Vest appears likely to avoid the injured list after leaving Sunday’s game with a finger problem.
“I’m expecting to have him available in some capacity and not go on the injured list,” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said on MLB Network Radio. “Things can always change if we get more information. But so far, so good.” If Vest does wind up experiencing a setback, Tommy Kahnle would be in line for more save chances.

Will Vest will undergo further evaluation and testing after being removed from Sunday’s relief appearance against the Reds with a right pinky finger issue.
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch told reporters Vest was immediately lifted from Sunday’s contest when he experienced something in his pinky finger after uncorking a wild pitch. He added that the 30-year-old righty will undergo a battery of tests to determine the severity of the issue. There should be an update on his status ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the Pirates. It’s unclear whether he’ll require a trip to the injured list yet. Any sort of extended absence would likely result in Tommy Kahnle taking over the ninth-inning duties for Detroit.

Will Vest left Sunday’s game against the Reds with a trainer.
Vest was lifted from the seventh inning of Sunday’s contest at Comerica Park after recording a pair of outs. There should be an update on his status shortly. The 30-year-old righty has emerged as the club’s primary ninth-inning option over the last few weeks. We’ll have updates on his status as they become available.

Will Vest delivered a dominant performance in the ninth inning on Thursday, retiring all three hitters that he faced to preserve a three-run lead against the Orioles.
Vest notched his 12th save of the season for his efforts. He got Ramon Laureano on on a ground ball to shortstop and then Ryan O’Hearn and Jackson Holliday each on swinging third strikes. Vest has been a rock at the end of the Tigers’ bullpen this season, compiling a minuscule 1.85 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and a 35/9 K/BB ratio over 34 1/3 innings while recording 12 saves and five wins.

Will Vest picked up his 11th save of the season on Tuesday evening, allowing one run on one hit in his lone inning of work against the Orioles.
Vest came on with a three-run lead to protect and immediately served up a solo homer to Jordan Westburg. That’s as close as the Orioles would get though as the 30-year-old right-hander retired each of the next three hitters in order — including a strikeout of Cedric Mullins to end it. Vest has been a major weapon out of the Tigers’ bullpen this season, posting a 1.89 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and a 34/9 K/BB ratio over 33 1/3 innings to go with 11 saves and five victories.

Will Vest slammed the door on the Cubs on Friday night, recording the final four outs to protect a two-run advantage and earn his ninth save of the season.
Vest was called upon to replace Tarik Skubal with runners at the corners and two outs in the eighth inning with the Tigers clinging to a one-run advantage. Seiya Suzuki belted a long fly ball to right field that could have been a go-ahead three-run homer had Kerry Carpenter not tracked it down and pulled it back. He then stayed on to work a scoreless ninth to close it out. On the season, the 30-year-old right-hander boasts a 1.72 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and a 32/9 K/BB ratio over 31 1/3 innings to go along with nine saves and five victories.

Tommy Kahnle worked a clean inning to earn the save on Wednesday against the White Sox.
It was Kahnle rather than Will Vest who came on to get this save. Yet, that’s likely because Vest came into this game in the seventh inning to face the top of the White Sox lineup and stayed on to pitch the eighth. He struck out three without allowing a base runner before Kahnle shut the door. In classic Kahnle fashion, he threw seven pitches and they were all changeups. Vest seems to still be first in line for saves in Detroit with Kahnle mixing in when the moment is right.

Will Vest slammed the door on the Royals in the ninth inning on Sunday afternoon, protecting a one-run lead to earn his ninth save of the season.
Vest did most of the work himself in this one, getting two of the three outs in the ninth inning on comebackers to the mound. In between he got Nick Loftin on a ground ball to short. The 29-year-old right-hander needed just nine pitches (seven strikes) to put the Royals away. On the season, he now sports a terrific 1.93 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and a 29/9 K/BB ratio across 28 innings.
