Giants OF prospect Wade Meckler went 2-for-2 with an RBI and also stole a base on Saturday for Triple-A Sacramento.
It’s possible the Giants will give Meckler a shot at the highest level again with Jerar Encarnacion sidelined until late May following wrist surgery. The 24-year-old is an extremely patient hitters and rarely strikes out. Those contact skills didn’t translate to immediate success in the majors back in 2023, but he’s deserving of another shot soon.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #43
Giants optioned RHP Tristan Beck and INF/OF Wade Meckler to Triple-A Sacramento and reassigned C Logan Porter, LHP Enny Romero and INF Mike Lamb to minor league camp.
No real surprises here. Beck has a chance to make starts for the Giants in 2025, but was never going to make the Opening Day rotation. Meckler will likely be a bench option at some point this summer for San Francisco.
  • SF Right Fielder #53
Wade Meckler (neck/head) is back in the lineup for Monday’s Cactus League tilt against the White Sox.
Meckler ended up missing a little over a week while dealing with a neck strain and also entering the concussion protocol. The 24-year-old will have a less less than two weeks to prove he’s worthy of being a bench bat to open 2025.
  • SF Right Fielder #53
Wade Meckler has been diagnosed with a neck strain and is currently in the concussion protocol.
Meckler will be out of action until he can clear the protocol, and the 24-year-old will obviously need to get over his strained neck before returning to action as well. The outfielder is competing for a bench spot with the Giants, but a trip to the injured list is obviously a possibility to begin 2025, as well.

Wade Meckler went 2-for-4 with a homer and a walk for Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday,
Meckler struggled with a wrist injury over the early part of the season, but since rejoining Sacramento on Aug. 1, he’s hit .312/.358/.544 with six homers in 148 plate appearances. It’d probably take an injury to get him a look in the majors at this point, but depending on what happens this winter, he could be in the mix for a spot in the Giants outfield next spring.
  • SF Right Fielder #53
Wade Meckler is still weeks away from returning from a sprained wrist that has sidelined him since the spring.
Meckler, who made his major league debut with the Giants last season, wasn’t viewed as a candidate to make the team this spring, but given the team’s outfield injuries, he’d probably be up now if he were healthy. Instead, he’s yet to play this year and probably won’t be a major league option until the second half.
  • SF Outfielder
The Giants optioned OF Wade Meckler to Triple-A Sacramento; reassigned LHP Carson Whisenhunt, RHP Tommy Romero, INF Donovan Walton, OFs Trenton Brooks and Yoshi Tsutsugo to minor league camp.
Meckler had an outside chance at making the club’s 27-man Opening Day roster, but he still showed promise during his time at spring camp. In his 13 games, the 23-year-old slashed .423/.483/.577 with two doubles, one triple and nine RBI. He’ll continue to develop at the Triple-A level where he posted a .965 OPS across 24 games last season. Whisenhunt is one of the top pitching prospects in baseball and figures to make an impact for fantasy managers down the road.
  • SF Outfielder
Wade Meckler went 3-for-4 with three RBI in Monday’s game versus the Royals.
The 23-year-old’s impressive Spring Training continues. In his 12 spring games, Meckler is 11-for-25 (.440 AVG) with nine RBI and has struck out just three times. Last season, Meckler struggled in the big leagues slashing just .232/.328/.250 with 64 plate appearances. It’s unlikely he’ll be with San Francisco for Opening Day, but he’s showing improvements from his 2023 campaign.
  • SF Outfielder
Giants optioned OF Wade Meckler to Triple-A Sacramento.
Meckler was a terrific minor league player this season and still looks like a very good get as an eighth-round pick in the 2022 draft, but the 23-year-old showed little ability to hit the ball hard in the majors. In fact, the 33 balls he put in play averaged 81.4 mph off the bat and topped out at 99.7 mph. Triple-A is where he belongs right now.
  • SF Outfielder
Wade Meckler smacked an RBI double on Monday, lifting the Reds to a 4-1 victory over the Reds.
Meckler came off the bench in the fourth inning and wound up reaching base safely in a pair of plate appearances, including a sixth-inning RBI double to right field off Reds reliever Derek Law to give the Giants a commanding four-run lead at the time. The 23-year-old rookie outfielder appears to have put his early struggles in the rearview mirror, notching seven hits in just 17 at-bats over the past week.
