Vinny Capra is starting at third base and batting eighth on Saturday against the Yankees.
Capra makes his second straight start at the hot corner, facing Yankees southpaw Max Fried, with Oliver Dunn on the bench. The 28-year-old went deep during Thursday’s season opener following a torrid spring where he blasted six homers in 55 plate appearances. He’s at least worthy of a speculative roster spot in extremely deep mixed leagues and NL-only formats.

Vinny Capra hit his first major league homer Thursday off the Yankees’ Carlos Rodón.
Technically, it’s Capra’s fourth big-league season, though he entered the day with a grand total of 37 career plate appearances. He hit six homers this spring to pull off an upset and claim a bench spot, and he’ll likely keep playing third against lefties in a platoon with Oliver Dunn.

Vinny Capra is starting at third base and batting eighth for the Brewers on Thursday against the Yankees.
The Yankees are starting left-hander Carlos Rodon, so the Brewers will counter with the right-handed Capra instead of presumed starter Oliver Dunn. Capra had a good spring training, hitting .292/.358/.729 with six home runs and 14 RBI in 55 plate appearances. He doesn’t figure to get enough at-bats to be on the fantasy radar for now. The full Brewers lineup is: Jackson Chourio LF, Christian Yelich DH, William Contreras C, Rhys Hoskins 1B, Sal Frelick RF, Joey Ortiz SS, Garrett Mitchell CF, Vinny Capra 3B, Brice Turang 2B.

Vinny Capra made the Brewers’ Opening Day roster.
Capra, 28, has just 37 career plate appearances at the major league level, all coming in the last three years with the Blue Jays, Pirates and Brewers. He crushed five home runs in spring training and made the team over Caleb Durbin as a reserve infielder. Capra figures to be the short-side of a platoon with Oliver Dunn at third base to start the season.

Brewers optioned INF Andruw Monasterio to Triple-A Nashville; reassigned RHP Craig Yoho and C Jorge Alfaro to minor league camp.
Yoho boasts one of the most electric changeups in the game and has recorded astronomical strikeout totals in the upper minors. It feels like only a matter of time before he reaches the big leagues. Monasterio’s departure leaves Caleb Durbin and Vinny Capra as Milwaukee’s likely bench options as versatile utility infielders.

Vinny Capra homered twice and drove in six runs in a 9-8 win over the Reds on Saturday.
The second of those three-run shots was a walkoff shot in the ninth inning. The 28-year-old is not exactly known for his power, but he certainly showed some Saturday. Capra is likely just organizational depth for the Brewers in 2025, but obviously more showings like this in Arizona could give him a shot to be a utility player to open the spring.
  • MIL Third Baseman #18
Brewers optioned INF Vinny Capra to Triple-A Nashville.
With Joey Ortiz returning from the injured list on Friday, there simply wasn’t room for Capra on the active roster any longer. He’ll bide his time at Triple-A Nashville until he’s needed once more.

Brewers recalled INF Vinny Capra from Triple-A Nashville.
With Joey Ortiz (neck) heading to the injured list, Capra will get an opportunity to function as a reserve infielder for the big-league club. The 27-year-old was hitting .246/.333/.350 with four homers, 25 RBI and five stolen bases in 297 plate appearances at Triple-A Nashville. He can continue to be ignored for fantasy purposes.
  • MIL Second Baseman #79
The Brewers optioned INFs Oliver Dunn, Vinny Capra and Owen Miller and RHP Janson Junk to Triple-A Nashville; Reassigned INF Tyler Black and LHPs Robert Gasser and Jared Koenig to minor league camp.
Dunn spent most of his 2023 season at the Double-A level within the Phillies’ farm system in Reading and slashed .271/.396/.506 with 21 home runs and 78 RBI across 505 plate appearances. The 26-year-old infielder definitely made his precense known at Brewers spring camp with a .876 OPS and nine RBI, but it wasn’t enough to keep him up in the majors. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him called up at some point during the season if he shows consistency at the Triple-A level or if there is a need in the infield due to injury.
  • MIL Shortstop #47
Brewers claimed INF Vinny Capra of waivers from the Pirates.
Capra, who has gotten into just 17 games over the last two seasons between the Pirates and Blue Jays, bolsters Milwaukee’s infield depth in the upper minors heading into the offseason. The 27-year-old is capable of handling multiple infield spots and figures to get a look in spring training as a bench option.
