Cardinals optioned OF Victor Scott II to Triple-A Memphis.
Scott played in all three games while he was up, going 3-for-5. Alas, he’s still taking a backseat in center field for now because of Michael Siani’s defense.

Cardinals optioned OF Victor Scott II to Triple-A Memphis.
The move creates room on the roster for Thomas Saggese, with Saggese having his contract selected in a corresponding transaction. Scott II has registered just a .478 OPS with a .164 average in his time in the majors with a 42/6 K/BB. He has some long-term appeal because of his incredible speed, but there’s a lot that needs to get better for him to be a fantasy option.

Victor Scott II went 3-for-4 while stealing a base in a 3-0 win over the Brewers on Thursday.
It’s the first ever three-hit game for Scott II, and just the third multi-hit effort for the rookie outfielder in 35 chances. The 23-year-old’s steal is the third of the season with St. Louis to go with 29 swipes for Triple-A Memphis. Scott II’s ability to run with the best of them makes him a tantalizing long-term play, but he just doesn’t get on enough to justify a fantasy spot right now.

Jordan Walker is not in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Dodgers.
It’ll be Victor Scott II in center field, with Lars Nootbaar and Brendan Donovan in the corners, and Alec Burleson at designated hitter, on Saturday night at Busch Stadium. Walker has gone 1-for-8 with three strikeouts in three games since returning to the majors earlier this week after an extended hot streak at Triple-A Memphis that coincided with some mechanical adjustments to his swing. The 22-year-old former top prospect is unlikely to carve out enough consistent playing time in the Cardinals’ crowded outfield mix to make a significant impact for fantasy managers down the home stretch, but he’s a name to watch heading into next year.

Michael Siani (oblique) has resumed baseball activities.
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol told reporters Siani has yet to resume taking swings, so it seems unlikely he’ll be back before September. The 25-year-old defensive ace hit the injured list back in early August with a moderate right oblique strain. His extended absence has created an opportunity for both Jordan Walker and Victor Scott II at the highest level.

Victor Scott II is batting .211 with one homer and four RBI in five games since returning to the majors.
Scott delivered a key go-ahead two-run double in the eighth inning of Friday’s comeback victory over the Royals just a few days after connecting for his first major league homer. According to MLB.com’s John Denton, the 23-year-old speedster recently made a mechanical adjustment to his swing in the minors leagues, switching to a more exaggerated leg kick, which has led to an almost uptick in offensive production. Scott remains a work in progress as a hitter, but his stolen base prowess is going to make him a significant fantasy contributor down the road, even if he never fully puts it together at the dish.

Victor Scott II went 0-for-3 with a strikeout on Monday in the Cardinals’ shutout loss to the Mets.
Making his first start in the big leagues since April 19, Scott went hitless and is now batting .081 (5-for-62) with two steals this season at the highest level. The 23-year-old offers game-breaking speed once he gets on-base, but remains a work in progress at the plate. He’ll continue to get chances in center field with Michael Siani on the injured list after Dylan Carlson was shipped to the Rays at the trade deadline.

Cardinals recalled OF Victor Scott II from Triple-A Memphis.
With Michael Siani hitting the injured list with a right oblique strain, Scott will get another chance to show what he can do at the big-league level. The 23-year-old speedster opened the season as the club’s starting center fielder but slashed just .085/.138/.136 with zero homers, two RBI and two stolen bases in 65 plate appearances before getting demoted. If he sees everyday action, his speed could make him an impact addition in mixed leagues down the stretch.

Katie Woo of The Athletic reports that Michael Siani (oblique) will be placed on the 10-day injured list prior to Sunday’s game against the Cubs.
Siani was removed from the game against the Cubs on Saturday with tightness in his right oblique, and the Cardinals won’t have the outfielder available for the next week-plus. Woo reports that St. Louis will call up Victor Scott to take Siani’s place on the roster. Scott has big-time speed, but hasn’t hit well enough to suggest fantasy significance.

Victor Scott II will serve as the 27th man for Thursday’s game against the Giants at Rickwood Field in Alabama.
Scott gives the Cardinals a speedy pinch-running option for Thursday’s highly-anticipated showdown at historic Rickwood Field, the oldest professional ballpark in the United States. The 23-year-old speedster posted two steals in 20 games earlier this year in his first taste of the majors.
