Angels signed LHP Victor González to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
The 29-year-old southpaw did a nice job in 27 appearances for the Yankees during the 2024 season, registering a 3.86 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and an 11/13 K/BB ratio over his 23 1/3 innings of work. Looking at what’s ahead of him on the depth chart currently, there’s no reason that González shouldn’t be able to compete for a spot in the Halos’ Opening Day bullpen.

    Yankees released LHP Victor González.
González was sent outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre back in June, and now he’ll look for a new opportunity. Don’t be surprised if that move doesn’t come until the offseason, but there’s a chance someone could give him an opportunity for the final couple of weeks of 2024.

Yankees sent LHP Victor González outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
González had a 3.86 ERA before being sent down by the Yankees, though it came with an 11/13 K/BB in 23 1/3 innings. The Yankees are surely glad he cleared waivers, and he might well reemerge as a bullpen option in the second half.

Yankees designated LHP Victor González for assignment.
González had a 3.86 ERA in 27 appearances with New York, but the Yankees had a bit of a roster crunch and need a fresh arm after the 17-5 laugher that necessitated nearly eight full innings from the bullpen on Thursday.

Victor González locked down the save for the Yankees in a 5-4 win over the Rays on Sunday.
With Clay Holmes unavailable after throwing on back-to-back days, Aaron Boone turned to Victor González to close out the win on Sunday. He made things a little interesting with a two-out walk to Randy Arozarena, but he was able to get himself out of the jam. González has been solid for the Yankees this year, but he shouldn’t see too many more save chances.

Victor González recorded his second career save with a scoreless ninth in a three-run game against the Diamondbacks on Monday.
Clay Holmes pitched the previous two days, so he was unavailable tonight. That turned out just fine for the Yankees, who got 4 1/3 innings of one-run relief without using any of their top three relievers. González’s previous save came with the Dodgers in a game against the Padres on Apr. 17, 2021.

Yankees and LHP Victor González avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $860,000 contract.
González was acquired last month from the Dodgers as part of a three-player swap and figures to make an impact this season as part of New York’s middle relief mix.
  • LAD Shortstop #19
Dodgers acquired INF Trey Sweeney from the Yankees for INF Jorbit Vivas and LHP Victor González.
The Dodgers needed to clear two spots on the 40-man roster for Joe Kelly and Shohei Ohtani, so they dealt two players on the 40-man roster - González and Vivas - for one who isn’t. Sweeney was the 8th-ranked prospect in the Yankees system, according to MLB Pipeline. The 23-year-old shortstop was the 20th overall pick in the 2021 draft, and he hit .252/.367/.411 in Double-A last year with 13 home runs and 20 steals. While Vivas is the more advanced hitter at the moment, Sweeney has plus raw tools and the potential to grow into more power which will make him a solid starting infielder at the big league level. Given that the Dodgers don’t have room in their current MLB lineup and are loaded with INF prospects like Michael Busch, it could be a couple years before we see Sweeney crack the Dodgers’ MLB roster.
  • NYY Second Baseman #79
Yankees acquired INF Jorbit Vivas and LHP Victor González from the Dodgers for INF Trey Sweeney.
Vivas is a high contact rate hitter with an 81 percent contact rate and a career 15.4 percent minor league strikeout rate. In 612 plate appearances between Double-A and Triple-A in 2023, Vivas posted a .269/.381/.407 triple slash with 13 home runs and 25 stolen bases. He likely won’t be more than a 10 home run hitter at the major league level, but Vivas is a solid defender at both second base and third base and profiles as a high floor utility infielder who has more real-life value than fantasy value.

Yankees acquired LHP Victor González and INF Jorbit Vivas from the Dodgers for INF Trey Sweeney.
Both González and Vivas were on the 40-man roster, and the Dodgers needed to clear two roster spots for Shohei Ohtani and Joe Kelly. González is a 28-year-old reliever who pitched to a 4.01 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 33 2/3 innings last year with a 30/10 K/BB ratio. Victor González had a 2.70 ERA during the Dodger’s 2020 playoff run that ended in a World Series win. He has an elite 58.1 percent career ground ball rate and induces a lot of to weak contact while holding lefties to a .209 batting average and .282 slugging percentage in his career. He has three years of team control with one MiLB option left and is projected to make $1M in 2023.
