Pirates purchased the contract of RHP Victor Black from Double-A Altoona.
Black was dominant with the Altoona Curve this season, posting a 1.65 ERA and 85 strikeouts over 60 innings. Injuries have slowed his progress, but the hard-throwing right-hander is beginning to look like a potential impact arm in the late innings.

Vic Black would get the ball in a save situation Thursday against the Brewers.
Mets manager Terry Collins wants to give LaTroy Hawkins a breather after he threw 19 pitches to lock down Wednesday’s win over the Reds. It’s worth it to give the young guy a shot, especially if the Mets have real concerns about Bobby Parnell.

According to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, Pirates prospect Vic Black is a “strong possibility” as the player to be named later in the John Buck and Marlon Byrd trade.
Black is currently on waivers and expected to clear on Thursday morning. The 25-year-old right-hander has registered a cool 2.51 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 63/21 K/BB ratio in 46 2/3 innings this season at the Triple-A level. He would be a nice get for the rebuilding Mets.

The 28-year-old southpaw hasn’t appeared in a big league game since the 2014 season due to shoulder surgery. He has been clocked as high as 97 mph in recent workouts and could eventually be a nice boost to a struggling bullpen.

Vic Black (neck, shoulder) threw a bullpen session on Monday.
Black hasn’t appeared in game action for over a month after being diagnosed with a herniated disk in his neck. He’s obviously made progress recently, though, and should resume his rehab assignment soon.

Vic Black suffered a groin injury at Triple-A Las Vegas.
It’s yet another setback for the right-handed reliever, who was probably on the cusp of joining the Mets’ bullpen. Black hasn’t appeared in a major league game this year due to a variety of injuries. The severity of this new groin problem is unclear.

Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen indicated Wednesday that Vic Black (neck, shoulder) is ready to be activated from the disabled list.
It appears there’s no definitive date on when it will happen, though. Black began the season on the DL with shoulder tendinitis before suffering a herniated disk in his neck.
