Ferguson returns to the big leagues ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Angels to fill a middle relief role in Oakland’s bullpen.

Ferguson was shipped back to the minors as Oakland made a flurry of roster moves prior to Friday’s contest against the Braves.

Ferguson made his long-awaited big-league debut earlier this month before being shipped back to the minors. The 30-year-old righty will pitch in middle relief for Oakland moving forward.

Ferguson was sent down after Monday’s game against the Rockies. The 30-year-old will head back to Triple-A for the time being, and the A’s will announce a corresponding transaction before Tuesday’s tilt with Colorado.

The 30-year-old right-hander has never played in the major leagues during his 11-year career, but he may get an opportunity with Oakland. Ferguson has put together a nice season at the Triple-A level where he holds a 2.40 ERA, 1.26 WHIP with a 24/5 K/BB ratio across 15 innings of work.

Ferguson compiled a pedestrian 5.72 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 86/58 K/BB ratio ac ross 78 2/3 innings (51 appearances, three starts) this past season for Triple-A Reno in Arizona’s minor league system. The 30-year-old righty represents extra organizational relief depth for Oakland heading into next season.

The 29-year-old hurler spent each of the last two seasons in the Braves organization, most recently posting a 4.80 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 64/40 K/BB ratio across 50 2/3 innings between Double-A Mississippi and Triple- A Gwinnett. He’ll add bullpen depth in the upper minors for the D’Backs.

The right-hander carries a career 5.58 ERA over 133 innings in the minor leagues and has not appeared in a game since 2018.
