Twins acquired INF Tristan Gray from the Red Sox for C prospect Nate Baez.
The Red Sox acquired Gray from the Rays in November, but they now need a 40-man roster spot to sign Ranger Suarez officially, so Gray will land in Minnesota. The 29-year-old is a good defender at multiple infield positions, but hit .207/.264/.369 in 122 plate appearances over three seasons with the Rays. He may fulfill the role in Minnesota that Willi Castro left behind, but he won’t bring near the same offensive value.

Red Sox acquired INF Tristan Gray from the Rays for RHP Luis Guerrero.
The 29-year-old Gray has struggled to establish himself in the majors while hitting .207/.264/.369 in 122 plate appearances over three seasons, but he has made nice gains in cutting his strikeout rate in Triple-A the last two years. He has a solid glove, especially at third, and ample power, so he’s decent enough infield insurance. He also has one option year left, which the Red Sox will probably take advantage of.
  • TB Center Fielder #45
Everson Pereira came out of Thursday’s game with lower back tightness.
Tristan Gray replaced him, with Richie Palacios moving from second base to the outfield. Pereira, who has been hoping to work his way into the Rays’ plans for 2026, is hitting .138/.219/.246 with 28 strikeouts in 73 plate appearances.

Tristan Gray blasted a go-ahead homer in the seventh inning on Tuesday night, powering the Rays to a 5-4 victory over the White Sox in Chicago.
Gray drew a walk in the second inning and ultimately scored on a two-out RBI single off the bat of Chandler Simpson. He then delivered the game’s biggest hit with a go-ahead, 397-foot (106.9 mph EV) solo shot off of Tyler Alexander in the seventh inning that proved to be the difference. The 29-year-old infielder is now hitting .244/.289/.519 with three long balls and seven RBI in in his first 45 plate appearances with the Rays.
  • TB 2nd Baseman #7
Ha-Seong Kim has been scratched from the lineup for Wednesday’s series finale against the Yankees with lower back tightness.
It’ll be Tristan Gray taking over at shortstop on Wednesday night. Kim has been plagued by physical issues since making his season debut back in early July. There should be an update on his status shortly.
  • TB Shortstop #6
Taylor Walls has been scratched from Saturday’s lineup against the Mariners.
Walls was set to play second base against Seattle, but that will now be handled by Tristan Gray. A reason for why Gray is out should be available shortly.
  • TB 1st Baseman #2
Yandy Díaz is not in the Rays’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Mariners in Seattle.
It looks to be nothing more than an evening of rest for the 34-year-old infielder. Brandon Lowe will slide over and cover first base in his absence while Tristan Gray will start at second base and bat ninth for the Rays against M’s right-hander Luis Castillo on Friday night.

Rays recalled INF Tristan Gray from Triple-A Durham.
With Jonathan Aranda (wrist) landing on the 10-day injured list and Jose Caballero getting shipped to the Yankees, the door is open for Gray to see some action with the big league club. The 29-year-old infielder has gone 1-for-6 (.167) with one RBI in his limited action at the Major League level this season.
  • TB 3rd Baseman #10
Rays optioned INF Tristan Gray to Triple-A Durham.
Gray heads back to the minors with All-Star second baseman Brandon Lowe returning from the injured list for Wednesday’s series finale against the Yankees.
  • TB 3rd Baseman #41
Rays acquired INF Tristan Gray from the White Sox for cash considerations.
Gray spent a couple seasons in Tampa Bay’s minor-league system earlier in his career so it’s unsurprising that they would bring him back as emergency infield depth while Ha-Seong Kim is on the shelf with a back injury. The 29-year-old infielder will occupy a spot on the Rays’ bench for at least the next handful of games leading into the trade deadline.
