Tomoyuki Sugano gave up four runs — three earned — in 3 2/3 innings Monday against the Guardians.
Although he’s known for his command, Sugano walked three for a second straight start and hit a batter tonight. He has a 7.88 ERA and a 23/14 K/BB over just 32 innings in his last seven starts. The Orioles will stick with him, but we’re not sure things will get much better.

Tomoyuki Sugano logged a quality start in Thursday’s victory over the Mets, surrendering three runs on just four hits over his six frames.
Sugano also walked three batters in the ballgame while recording a pair of strikeouts. The Mets scratched out a pair of runs against him in the opening inning and had him on the ropes, but the crafty right-hander allowed just one additional run — an RBI single to Brett Baty in the fourth inning — the rest of the way. He generated 11 whiffs on 99 pitches on the afternoon, registering a CSW of 24 percent. Sugano finishes the first half with a 7-5 record, 4.44 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and a 59/22 K/BB ratio over 99 1/3 innings through his first 18 starts with the Orioles.

Wednesday’s game between the Mets and Orioles has been postponed due to inclement weather.
It’ll be made up on Thursday as a doubleheader. Wednesday’s original starting pitchers — David Peterson and Tomoyuki Sugano — will presumably take the ball at some point during the twin bill at Camden Yards.

Tomoyuki Sugano allowed 10 hits and six runs with one walk and five strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings in a loss against the Rangers on Wednesday.
The Rangers absolutely teed off on Sugano after they went around their order one time. Marcus Semien got the party started with a three-run homer in the third inning. They rallied for two more in the fourth and Corey Seager crushed a 420 foot home run in the fifth. Sugano was mercifully pulled from the game soon thereafter and has now allowed 13 earned runs over his past two starts. After a strong start to the season, he now has a 4.44 ERA after it sat at 3.04 less than a month ago. He’s scheduled to face the Mets next time out in his last start before the All-Star break.

Tomoyuki Sugano allowed seven runs in five innings and got the win in the Orioles’ 22-8 victory over the Rays on Friday.
Sugano gave up nine hits, walked one and struck out two. It’s rare that a pitcher allows seven runs and still gets the win, but Sugano accomplished that feat as he was able to complete five innings as the Orioles piled on 22 runs against the Rays. Sugano has a 4.06 ERA and 52/18 K/BB ratio in 88 2/3 innings this year, but his 4.61 xFIP suggests he’s been fortunate. His 1.73 HR/9 is also concerning. Sugano is lined up to face the Rangers on the road next week.

Tomoyuki Sugano will make his next start on Friday against the Rays.
The Orioles elected to scratch Sugano from Wednesday’s scheduled start against the Rangers, giving the ball to pitching prospect Brandon Young instead, in an effort to give the veteran righty some extra rest between outings. The 35-year-old is healthy and will get the ball for Friday’s series opener at Camden Yards.

Tomoyuki Sugano has been scratched from his next start on Wednesday against the Rangers.
It’ll be pitching prospect Brandon Young coming up from Triple-A Norfolk to make a spot start in his place. Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino told reporters Sugano is healthy, but the club wants to give him some extra rest after pitching in a six-man rotation throughout his career in Japan. He’ll presumably be ready to take the ball for Friday’s series opener against the Rays.

Tomoyuki Sugano allowed seven hits and three runs with three walks and four strikeouts over 3 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Yankees on Friday.
Sugano struggled mightily with the Yankees. He let the first four batters of the game reach base safely and was under duress from that point inward. The lead-off hitter got on in every inning he started and he was generally fortunate to give up just two runs despite 10 reaching base in under four innings of work. This is now back-to-back starts by Sugano where he failed to complete five innings. He’d done so in 10 of his first 12 starts this season. He’ll look to get back on track in his next scheduled start against the Rangers at home.

Tomoyuki Sugano allowed three runs with four strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Angels on Saturday.
Sugano walked the leadoff man in the first inning and served up a two-run blast to Mike Trout. He then gave up a run in the fifth on a single, double, and two hit batters before leaving with two outs in the inning at 80 pitches. He struck out four. The 35-year-old right-hander will take a 3.38 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and a 46/14 K/BB ratio across 80 innings into a start against the Rays in Tampa on Thursday.

Tomoyuki Sugano struggled in a losing effort against the Athletics on Sunday afternoon, surrendering four runs (three earned) on eight hits over his 4 1/3 innings.
The 35-year-old right-hander walked one batter while striking out two in the ballgame. The A’s got to him early and often in this one, scratching out a run in the opening inning and adding three more (one unearned) in the second. Sugano settled in nicely afterwards, but the damage had already been done. He got four whiffs on 87 pitches on the afternoon, posting an underwhelming CSW of only 17 percent. He’ll attempt to bounce back as he carries a 3.23 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and a 42/12 K/BB ratio (75 1/3 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against the Angels.
