    Rockies released RHP Tommy Doyle.
Doyle latched on with the Rockies back in late January on a minor league contract, but wound up only making a pair of relief appearances this spring before being cut loose. The 28-year-old righty has made 18 appearances in the big leagues dating back to 2020.
  • COL Relief Pitcher #57
Rockies signed RHP Tommy Doyle to a minor league contract.
Doyle heads to Colorado as extra organizational relief depth spending all of last year at Triple-A Gwinnett in the Braves’ system, posting a strong 3.57 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 43/17 K/BB ratio across 40 1/3 innings (32 appearances). The 28-year-old righty broke into the majors with Colorado back in 2020 and made a career-high 15 appearances for the Rockies during the 2023 campaign.
  • ATL Starting Pitcher #36
Braves optioned RHPs Ian Anderson, Daysbel Hernández and Allan Winans, and LHP Dylan Dodd to Triple-A Gwinnett; Reassigned LHP Ben Bowden, RHP Tommy Doyle and C Tyler Tolve to minor league camp.
Anderson appeared in three games for Atlanta during spring camp and posted a 6.14 ERA over 7 and 1/3 innings of work. The 25-year-old struggled to keep the ball in play; two of his five hits allowed during camp were home runs. The former first-round pick in the 2016 MLB Draft hasn’t pitched in the majors since the 2022 season after he missed the entirety of last season due to Tommy John surgery.

The move cleared a spot for the newly-acquired Cal Quantrill on the 40-man roster. Doyle, 27, struggled with a 6.85 ERA in 15 relief appearances with Colorado this past season.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #47
Rockies acquired RHP Cal Quantrill from the Guardians for C Kody Huff.
The Rockies are attempting to buy-low on the 28-year-old in hopes that 2023 was an outlier season for Quantrill. After five seasons on the big stage, he sports a 3.83 ERA in 570 2/3 career innings. The problem? His 2023 season featured a 5.24 ERA in 19 starts while also seeing him go on the IL multiple times with shoulder inflammation. Earlier the week the Guardians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti commented on Quantrill, “Ultimately, we made the determination that with where we were in the offseason, we wouldn’t be able to commit the resources necessary to keep him through the arbitration process.” To make room for Quantrill on the 40-man roster, the Rockies designated RHP Tommy Doyle for assignment.
