Herrin was drilled in the arm by a line drive off the bat of Oneil Cruz. The ball appeared to hit him just above the elbow on his left arm. He’ll head for further evaluation — and possibly imaging — to see exactly what’s going on there. The Guardians should have an update on his status shortly.

The Guardians needed to free up a spot in the bullpen for Cody Morris on Friday and it looks like Herrin was once again the odd-man out this time around. The 26-year-old southpaw has struggled in his opportunities with the big league club this season, compiling a 5.53 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 32/12 K/BB ratio across 27 2/3 frames.

Herrin has been summoned to take fellow left-hander Daniel Norris’ spot in Cleveland’s bullpen ahead of Thursday’s contest against the Tigers. The 26-year-old southpaw has struggled to a 5.55 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 28/11 K/BB ratio across 24 1/3 innings (20 appearances) this season in the big leagues.

With Peyton Battenfield (shoulder) landing on the injured list on Friday, Herrin will return to the big league roster and provide a fresh arm in the bullpen while the Guardians determine how to handle Battenfield’s rotation spot for Monday’s tilt against the White Sox. Herrin has surrendered eight runs on nine hits while posting a 13/4 K/BB ratio over 9 2/3 innings with the big league club this season.
