  • SF Shortstop #39
Giants sent INF Thairo Estrada outright to Triple-A Sacramento.
We had a feeling that this move could be coming after Estrada was placed on waivers earlier in the week. After getting unclaimed, he now has the option to elect free agency if that looks more appealing than reporting to Triple-A Sacramento. Estrada has hit just .217/.247/.343 with nine homers, 47 RBI and two stolen bases in what has been an extremely disappointing 2024 season.
  • SF Shortstop #39
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Giants have placed Thairo Estrada, Tyler Matzek and Taylor Rogers on waivers.
That makes those players available to any team that’s willing to claim them and take on their remaining salaries. It’s unclear if there will be any actual interest in any of them, or if the Giants plan on keeping them if they pass through waivers unclaimed. Stay tuned.
  • SF Shortstop #39
Giants activated INF Thairo Estrada from the 10-day injured list.
Estrada had been out since July 25 with a sprained wrist. The demotion of Brett Wisely to make room for him suggests that he’ll get another chance to play regularly, even though he’s hit just .216/.249/.343 in 346 plate appearances this season. He’s also 1-for-3 stealing bases this year after going 21-for-27 in 2022 and 23-for-30 last year.
  • SF Shortstop #39
Thairo Estrada went 1-for-3 in his first rehab game with Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.
Estrada, out since July 26 with a sprained wrist, has been a liability this year, so the Giants will probably want to get him a significant number of at-bats in Triple-A before bringing him back from the injured list. Once he does return, it’s possible he could push Marco Luciano off the roster.
  • SF Shortstop #39
Giants’ manager Bob Melvin told reporters on Wednesday that Thairo Estrada (wrist) is not close to returning.
That doesn’t sound very optimistic. We have yet to hear any sort of timeframe on how long Estrada will be sidelined with his left wrist sprain, but it seems like it’ll be much longer than the minimal stay on the injured list. Melvin also noted that Brett Wisely and Casey Schmitt will continue to share the load at second base while Estrada is shelved.
  • SF Shortstop #39
Giants placed INF Thairo Estrada on the 10-day injured list with a left wrist sprain.
What has already been a miserable and disappointing season for the 28-year-old infielder will now get a bit worse with another trip to the injured list. No word yet on how long Estrada will be shelved for this time around. Casey Schmitt was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to take his place on the active roster.
  • SF Shortstop #39
Thairo Estrada hit a two-run triple Friday in a loss for the Giants to the Rockies.
Estrada tripled home a pair to give the Giants a 2-0 lead in the second inning. That was the only hit of the game for the 28-year-old, but hey, if you’re gonna only get one hit, make it a two-run triple. Estrada has disappointed in 2024 with a .222/.255/.363 slash.
  • SF Right Fielder #2
Jorge Soler was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Blue Jays due to illness.
Giants general manager Farhan Zaidi told reporters Soler was feeling under the weather, which led to his removal from the lineup, despite the presence of lefty Yusei Kikuchi on the mound for Toronto on Tuesday night. It’ll be Thairo Estrada moving to designated hitter with Brett Wisely entering the lineup at second base. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.
  • SF Shortstop #39
Giants activated SS Thairo Estrada from the 10-day injured list.
Estrada figures to spend most of his time at shortstop with Nick Ahmed jettisoned from San Francisco’s roster ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the Blue Jays. The 28-year-old infielder has been out since late June recovering from left wrist tendinitis.
  • SF Second Baseman #39
Giants placed INF Thairo Estrada on the 10-day injured list with left wrist tendinitis.
Giants’ manager Bob Melvin noted that Estrada has been playing through a lot recently, so this was a good opportunity to sit him down for a while and allow him to get right. Brett Wisely is starting in his place at second base on Friday night and could be in line for increased action while Estrada is sidelined.
