The Mariners claimed Vavra off waivers from the Orioles on Aug. 25, only to DFA him six days later. He declared free agency after clearing waivers, and this puts him back in the organization he’s spent the rest of the last four years with. The 27-year-old will return to Triple-A Norfolk. He’s hit .254/.331/.304 in 159 career major league plate appearances.

Rather than stick around the Seattle organization, Vavra will hit the market with just three weeks left in the season; less than that in the MiLB campaigns. The 27-year-old will likely see interest from a team looking for infield depth.

Vavra was with the M’s for less than a week after being claimed off of waivers from the Orioles. He’s talented enough that he could once again pique another team’s interest on waivers.

The 27-year-old infielder had been designated for assignment earlier in the week, so the O’s were willing to flip him for anything that they could get at this stage. Vavra has hit .246/.345/.363 with three homers and 28 RBI in 207 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season. He’ll function as excess infield depth for the M’s.

The 27-year-old Vavra hasn’t appeared in the majors this season, though he hit .254/.331/.304 in 67 games for the Orioles between 2022 and ’23. He’s currently hitting .243/.350/.368 for Triple-A Norfolk.

Vavra was only on the major league roster for a day. The 27-year-old utilityman has hit .254/.331/.304 in 67 games for the Orioles since debuting in 2022.

Vavra is taking the roster spot of Connor Norby after Norby was traded to Miami in the deal for Trevor Rogers. Vavra should be a utility option with the ability to play all over the infield.

Vavra has been booted from Baltimore’s 40-man roster, presumably to make room for some additions heading into Tuesday’s Rule 5 Draft roster deadline. The 26-year-old has added some extra defensive versatility to his toolkit, but wound up getting into just 27 games this past season in the majors.

Vavra will miss the remainder of the season due to an ongoing right shoulder injury. The 26-year-old finishes the 2023 campaign with a .245/.315/.245 triple-slash line in 27 games in the big leagues.

Vavra has hit just .245/.315/.245 with five RBI and one stolen base across 56 plate appearances in 27 games this season at the big league level in a reserve role for the Orioles. The added defensive versatility helps, but there really isn’t a spot for him in Baltimore at the moment.
