Tanner Banks allowed three runs on three hits in 1 1/3 innings in a loss to the Cubs on Tuesday.
Banks was starting in place of Taijuan Walker, who also pitched poorly in relief. The Phillies likely won’t rely on either for meaningful innings during the postseason.

The Phillies will have Tanner Banks — not Taijuan Walker — start Tuesday against the Cubs.
It’s Walker’s spot in the rotation, but he won’t get another opportunity to start after giving up eight runs to the Mets on Thursday. Either he or Kolby Allard could follow Banks in the contest, since Banks will likely pitch two innings at the most. One imagines Walker would have to turn in a couple of impressive performances over the next six days to have a shot of making the Phillies’ initial postseason roster.

Phillies acquired LHP Tanner Banks from the White Sox for INF William Bergola.
Banks bolsters Philadelphia’s left-handed relief depth as a low-cost insurance policy and has been excellent as a weapon against southpaws this year. It’s ostensibly a one-for-one swap as the Phillies shipped fellow lefty Gregory Soto out to Baltimore in another deadline deal.

The White Sox and Phillies are reportedly swapping reliever Tanner Banks and prospect William Bergolla.
Banks was the surest thing in the White Sox pen, a lefty with a 4.13 ERA in 48 innings this season. He would have been very much in the mix for saves the rest of the way, but he’ll have a lesser role in Philadelphia.

Tanner Banks struck out two over a scoreless 10th to get a save against the Mariners on Thursday.

Tanner Banks got the call in the ninth Sunday against the Red Sox, but he blew the save by giving up a run.
Michael Kopech was unavailable after throwing 33 pitches Saturday, and the White Sox also decided against using Jordan Leasure, who threw 16 pitches in that one. Banks, on the other hand, did work for a second straight day after throwing 22 pitches last night. He gave up a run through a double, a stolen base and a sac fly. Kopech and Leasure remain the top two choices for saves in Chicago.

Tanner Banks struck out the final batter in the bottom of the tenth to earn the save against the Cardinals on Saturday.
The contest between the Cardinals and White Sox went into a rain delay with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the tenth. Banks took the mound after a three-hour delay to close it out with a one-run lead. He struck out Iván Herrera to end the game with his first save of the season.

Tanner Banks will serve as an opener for the White Sox on Monday in their game against the Guardians.
Banks has made two relief appearances this season, throwing a scoreless inning each time. He has struck out three and allowed one hit, but given that he has not logged multiple innings once this year, it’s hard to see him throwing more than one or two innings on Monday. There was some thought that the White Sox would call up Jared Shuster, who did not take his usual turn in the Triple-A rotation on Sunday. Whether it’s Shuster or a bullpen game for the White Sox, it would be best to avoid for fantasy purposes since the Guardians have been a feisty offense that doesn’t strike out much.

Gregory Santos gave up four runs — three earned — while working with a 7-1 lead in the eighth on Saturday.
The White Sox hoped they were just getting Santos some work tonight, since he hadn’t pitched in four days, but he ended up creating a save situation in the ninth with his poor showing. The White Sox barely held on in the end, with Lane Ramsey and Tanner Banks combining to give up a one on two hits and two walks in the ninth. Banks wound up with the save despite walking in a run. Santos might still be the favorite for saves in the White Sox pen right now, but Bryan Shaw is also in the mix, and it makes the most sense to leave the situation alone entirely.

Tanner Banks allowed four runs over four innings on Friday in a loss against the Athletics.
Banks had trouble against the A’s in the second inning on Friday. A walk, double, and base hit brought in the first run for Oakland. Three more runs would score before Banks could get out of the frame. He’d toss two more innings, ending his day after the fourth at 66 pitches. The 31-year-old left-hander carries a 5.32 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and a 20/5 K/BB across 22 innings. He lines up for a start against the Blue Jays in Chicago next week.
