Woodard had a 5.09 ERA in 17 2/3 innings for the Red Sox. He could be back as a middle reliever at some point.

Woodward, who made the Red Sox out of spring training, had a 4.69 ERA in 11 starts and 20 relief appearances for Pawtucket. He will again try for a job as a middle reliever with some team next spring.

Woodard, still just 28 years old, is going to need to pitch well in Triple-A before he gets another chance in the majors. That’s especially true since he picked the A’s to sign with. The former Brewer had a 4.69 ERA in 11 starts and 20 relief appearances for Triple-A Pawtucket last season.

Woodard, who will be used in middle relief, is going need a very impressive first couple of weeks in order to survive the anticipated return of Robert Person.

Woodard had been 8-6 with a 4.85 ERA in 18 starts for Triple-A Sacramento.
