Spencer Schwellenbach struck out nine in his first career complete game as the Braves topped the Brewers 6-2 on Wednesday.
The Braves had relievers up in the eighth and ninth innings, but Schwellenbach was allowed to continue and retired Jackson Chourio, William Contreras and Jake Bauers on 11 pitches during the final frame. In all, he threw 105 pitches, and he went without a walk for the fifth time in 14 starts this year. Schwellenbach has gone 4-1 in his last six starts to improve to 5-4 with a 3.11 ERA for the season. His next start will likely come a week from today against the Mets.

Spencer Schwellenbach allowed four runs — three earned — over six innings while not factoring into the decision against the Giants on Friday.
Schwellenbach walked two over those six innings, and he struck out four while allowing six hits. It was a far cry from the impressive 11 strikeouts he procured against the Red Sox last week, but his struggles still resulted in a quality start while seeing his ERA bump up to a still-good 3.24. He’ll be back on the bump against the Brewers on Wednesday if there’s no change to the rotation order.

Spencer Schwellenbach fanned 11 over 6 1/3 innings in the Braves’ 5-0 shutout of the Red Sox on Saturday.
The Red Sox were the only team that hadn’t been shut out this season, but that’s over now. Schwellenbach and Walker Buehler were both about 1.5 mph over their typical velocities in this one, which had us wondering if there was some sort of calibration issue. However, the relievers that followed in the contest were at their norms or below. Schwellenbach was recorded hitting 100 mph twice and averaged 98.1 mph with his 49 fastballs. It’s the second straight outing in which he’s tied his career high of 11 strikeouts, and he went without allowing a run for the first time since doing so in each of his first two outings of the year. Schwellenbach will take a 4-4 record and a 3.13 ERA into his next start against the Giants.

Spencer Schwellenbach pitched well in a losing effort against the Padres on Sunday afternoon, giving up four runs (two earned) on seven hits over his seven frames.
The 24-year-old right-hander amassed 11 strikeouts on the day and didn’t walk a batter. The Padres scratched out a single run against him in the opening inning, then Schwellenbach kept the Padres off the board until Gavin Sheets blasted a two-out, two-run homer in the sixth after an error by Austin Riley had extended the inning. He also allowed a solo shot to Jake Cronenworth in the seventh. Schwellenbach generated a whopping 20 swings and misses on 101 pitches on the afternoon — 11 of them on his fastball which averaged 97.5 mph — while posting an outstanding CSW of 37 percent. He’ll carry a 3.42 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and a 60/12 K/BB ratio (68 1/3 innings) into Saturday’s showdown against the Red Sox.

Spencer Schwellenbach allowed four runs on six hits in seven innings in a win over the Red Sox on Sunday.
All of the runs against Schwellenbach came on a grand slam off the bat of Rafael Devers. However, Schwellenbach failed to miss bats all game, posting just a 14 percent whiff rate while striking out three and walking one. The 24-year-old has been solid this season and has a deep arsenal of pitches, but he has also only posted 52 strikeouts in 68 1/3 innings this season. The lack of swing-and-miss puts a bit of a cap on his fantasy upside, and he has a tough matchup against the Padres next week.

Spencer Schwellenbach allowed two runs in seven innings and got the win in the Braves’ 5-2 victory over the Nationals on Tuesday.
Schwellenbach gave up four hits, walked two and struck out three. The Braves fell behind in the first inning on a CJ Abrams solo home run. Washington scored again off Schwellenbach in the fourth inning on an Amed Rosario RBI single, but that was it. The 24-year-old right-hander lowered his ERA to 3.31 and now sports a 46/11 K/BB ratio. Schwellenbach is lined up to face the Red Sox on the road this weekend.

Spencer Schwellenbach allowed just one run over six innings against the Reds on Thursday, but he didn’t factor into the decision.
The only run allowed came in the fifth inning when he gave up a double to Jose Trevino. Outside of that, he was rarely in trouble, as he struck out six with two walks while scattering five hits allowed. It was against a decidedly weaker lineup, but it’s encouraging to see Schwellenbach rebound from allowing six runs over 3 2/3 against the Dodgers in his last outing. Schwellenbach should be in fantasy lineups Tuesday for his scheduled start against the Nationals.

Spencer Schwellenbach was only able to work 3 2/3 innings while getting shelled for six runs in a loss to the Dodgers on Saturday.
Schwellenbach gave up one in the second, four in the third, and another two in the fourth in a lackluster effort. At least the first inning was ok. Schwellenbach needed a whopping 92 pitches to get his 11 outs, and saw his ERA jump up to 3.92 from the 2.87 mark he had before the start. The Dodgers are going to do this to a lot of good pitchers. The 24-year-old will get a chance to rebound at home against the Reds next week.

Spencer Schwellenbach surrendered four runs — three earned — in six innings Sunday in a loss to the Diamondbacks.
Schwellenbach got 16 missed swings in a six-strikeout day, but he also gave up 10 hard-hit balls, including a Geraldo Perdomo homer. Schwellenbach’s last three starts haven’t been nearly as impressive as his first three. He’s still a fine bet going forward, but he might not be a true fantasy ace just yet. He’ll take on the Dodgers next.

Spencer Schwellenbach didn’t qualify for a decision after allowing three runs — two earned — in seven innings Monday against Atlanta with five strikeouts.
Schwellenbach generated just nine swings and misses over seven innings, but after allowing two RBI singles in the second, the 24-year-old right-hander kept the Cards off the board. It’s a vast improvement over his struggles against the Blue Jays last time out, and it lowers his ERA to a very strong 2.56 for the campaign. He’s back on the bump against the Diamondbacks on Sunday, and he’s quickly become a starter who needs to be in fantasy lineups regardless of the opponent.
