Newton

Newton was picked up from the Phillies in the minor league portion of last December’s Rule 5 Draft and will return to Kansas City’s system after batting .222/.305/.432 with 15 homers and three steals in 366 plate appearances over 96 games this season for High-A Quad City.

Newton signed a minor league contract earlier this month with the Phillies and will head to the Royals. He spent the last six years in the Mets’ minor league system. The 23-year-old middle infielder hit .219/.313/.375 with 12 homers and one stela in 475 plate appearances over 120 games last year between Low-A St. Lucie and High-A Brooklyn.
