Martinez spent 2025 with the Marlins, and he forged a 5.40 ERA in 6 2/3 innings. The 31-year-old has had success at the highest level with the Astros, and a good showing in spring training could see him win a low-leverage bullpen job.

Martinez will test the free agent waters after passing through waivers unclaimed over the weekend. The 31-year-old hurler posted a pedestrian 5.40 ERA across 6 2/3 innings over six appearances for the Marlins. He previously made 111 appearances for the Astros from 2021-2024, registering a respectable 3.93 ERA over 137 1/3 innings during that span.

The 31-year-old right-hander was designated for assignment earlier in the week but passed through waivers unclaimed. It appears as though he’ll accept the assignment and continue to function as extra bullpen depth for the Marlins at the Triple-A level.

Martinez had a 5.40 ERA in 6 2/3 innings for the Marlins. His exit makes room for Ryan Weathers on both the active and the 40-man rosters.

The 30-year-old Martinez had spent the entire season at Jacksonville after failing to make the Marlins out of spring training and had a 3.71 ERA and a 54/18 K/BB in 43 2/3 innings. He’ll work out of the bullpen.

The 30-year-old hurler was removed from the team’s 40-man roster on Wednesday, but this time he passed through waivers unclaimed. Assuming he accepts the outright assignment, Martinez will add some quality bullpen depth at the Triple-A level for the Marlins.

The move clears way for Tyler Phillips after Phillips was traded to the Marlins on Wednesday. Martinez has been plucked off the waiver wire a couple times this offseason, but he stands a decent chance of remaining in the Miami organization this time.

Martinez heads to Miami as extra middle relief depth after posting a respectable 3.93 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 20.7 percent strikeout rate across 137 1/3 innings (111 appearances) for the Astros since 2021. The 30-year-old right-hander was with the Marlins last month before being claimed off waivers by Seattle. He also had a quick stint with Arizona earlier in the offseason.

It was a bit of a surprise that the Marlins designated Martinez for assignment earlier in the week to make room for Brett de Geus and now the Mariners swoop in and take advantage of the situation. The 30-year-old hurler posted a solid 3.59 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 36/18 K/BB ratio over 52 2/3 innings for the Astros in 2024 and will give the M’s another quality option in the middle innings.

Martinez was just claimed off of waivers from the Diamondbacks a week ago, but he gets booted from the 40-man roster on Thursday to make room for Brett de Geus. The 30-year-old hurler pitched well for the Astros in 2024 — posting a 3.59 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 36/18 K/BB ratio over 52 2/3 innings — so it wouldn’t be shocking to see another team grab him off of waivers this time around.
