Marlins sent RHP Seth Martinez outright to Triple-A Jacksonville.
The 30-year-old hurler was removed from the team’s 40-man roster on Wednesday, but this time he passed through waivers unclaimed. Assuming he accepts the outright assignment, Martinez will add some quality bullpen depth at the Triple-A level for the Marlins.

Marlins designated RHP Seth Martinez for assignment.
The move clears way for Tyler Phillips after Phillips was traded to the Marlins on Wednesday. Martinez has been plucked off the waiver wire a couple times this offseason, but he stands a decent chance of remaining in the Miami organization this time.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #40
Marlins claimed RHP Seth Martinez off waivers from the Mariners.
Martinez heads to Miami as extra middle relief depth after posting a respectable 3.93 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 20.7 percent strikeout rate across 137 1/3 innings (111 appearances) for the Astros since 2021. The 30-year-old right-hander was with the Marlins last month before being claimed off waivers by Seattle. He also had a quick stint with Arizona earlier in the offseason.

Mariners claimed RHP Seth Martinez off of waivers from the Marlins.
It was a bit of a surprise that the Marlins designated Martinez for assignment earlier in the week to make room for Brett de Geus and now the Mariners swoop in and take advantage of the situation. The 30-year-old hurler posted a solid 3.59 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 36/18 K/BB ratio over 52 2/3 innings for the Astros in 2024 and will give the M’s another quality option in the middle innings.

Marlins designated RHP Seth Martinez for assignment.
Martinez was just claimed off of waivers from the Diamondbacks a week ago, but he gets booted from the 40-man roster on Thursday to make room for Brett de Geus. The 30-year-old hurler pitched well for the Astros in 2024 — posting a 3.59 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 36/18 K/BB ratio over 52 2/3 innings — so it wouldn’t be shocking to see another team grab him off of waivers this time around.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher #39
Marlins placed RHP Eury Pérez on the 60-day injured list.
Pérez is recovering from Tommy John surgery and isn’t expected back until around the All-Star break, so this has no impact on his timeline. The Marlins simply needed a spot on the 40-man roster for newly-claimed reliever Seth Martinez.

Marlins claimed RHP Seth Martinez off waivers from the Diamondbacks.
Martinez was waived by the Diamondbacks on Monday just three months after Arizona claimed him off waivers from Houston. The 30-year-old had a 3.59 ERA in 52 2/3 innings for the Astros last season and should have a chance to make the Marlins’ bullpen this season. Eury Perez was moved to the 60-day IL to make space on the 40-man roster.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #61
Diamondbacks designated RHP Seth Martinez for assignment.
The Diamondbacks will try to slip the out-of-options Martinez through waivers 3 1/2 months after they claimed him from Houston. He had a 3.59 ERA in 52 2/3 innings for the Astros last season.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #61
Diamondbacks claimed RHP Seth Martinez off waivers from the Astros.
Martinez augments Arizona’s organizational relief depth heading into the offseason after making a career-high 44 relief appearances last year for the Astros. The 30-year-old righty has made 111 appearances in the big leagues since 2021 and won’t reach free agency until 2029.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #61
Astros optioned RHP Seth Martinez to Triple-A Sugar Land.
Martinez is a solid reliever, but has been optioned to Triple-A many times already this year. This time he’s been jettisoned to make room on the active roster for Shawn Dubin.
