Cardinals RHP prospect Sem Robberse struck out six and allowed one run over six innings on Thursday for Triple-A Memphis.
Robberse boasts a sublime 1.77 ERA and 35/7 K/BB ratio across 35 2/3 innings (six starts) for Triple-A Memphis and appears to be in line to fill the vacant spot in St. Louis’ starting rotation on Tuesday against the Mets. The unheralded 22-year-old righty doesn’t throw hard, but he’s certainly done enough to at least earn a spot start for the Cardinals with Steven Matz (back) likely to end up on the injured list.

Steven Matz (back) is unlikely to make his next scheduled start on Sunday against the White Sox.
The interesting wrinkle here is that the Cardinals decision to bump up Kyle Gibson and Miles Mikolas creates an opening on Tuesday against the Mets. The most likely candidate to fill that void would be pitching prospect Sem Robberse, who would be taking the ball on regular rest, and has been excellent this season for Triple-A Memphis. It’s a storyline worth monitoring this weekend.

Cardinals RHP prospect Sem Robberse struck out six and allowed two runs over seven innings on Friday for Triple-A Memphis.
Robberse boasts the second-lowest ERA (1.82) in the International League through five starts after spinning another gem on Friday evening for Triple-A Memphis. He generated 14 swinging strikes and finished with a 32 percent CSW. The 22-year-old righty doesn’t throw hard, but he’s been effective so far in the upper minors since coming over last year in the Jordan Hicks deal with the Blue Jays.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #61
Cardinals RHP prospect Sem Robberse struck out nine and allowed one run (zero earned) over eight innings on Friday for Triple-A Memphis.
Robberse has been excellent at the outset of the season, posting a microscopic 1.59 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 23/6 K/BB ratio across 22 2/3 innings (four starts) for Triple-A Memphis. The 22-year-old righty was acquired last year in the Jordan Hicks trade with the Blue Jays and could be an option for St. Louis at some point in the near future, especially if he keeps pitching well.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #77
Cardinals optioned RHP Sem Robberse to Triple-A Memphis; reassigned RHPs Tekoah Roby, Gordon Graceffo, Michael McGreevy and Ryan Loutos, LHP Connor Thomas, INF Arquimedes Gamboa and Cs Aaron Antonini and Jimmy Crooks to minor league camp.
No real surprises here among the latest batch of cuts from Cardinals camp, with Roby representing the highest profile name. The 22-year-old righty has more diverse opinions from scouts and evaluations than most prospects, but there’s no denying that he’s likely to reach the majors at some point during the 2024 campaign.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #77
Cardinals selected the contract of RHP Sem Robberse from Triple-A Memphis.
Robberse was part of the trade deadline package from the Blue Jays for hard-throwing reliever Jordan Hicks and will be protected from next month’s Rule 5 Draft. The 22-year-old right-hander finished with a solid 4.28 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 130/57 K/BB ratio across 124 innings (26 appearances, 25 starts) between Double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A Memphis.

Cardinals acquired RHP Sem Robberse and RHP Adam Kloffenstein from the Blue Jays for RHP Jordan Hicks.
The 21-year-old hurler — who grew up in the Netherlands — has registered a 4.06 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and an 86/33 K/BB ratio over 88 2/3 innings at Double-A New Hampshire this season. He’ll likely begin his Cardinals’ career at the Double-A level as well.

According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, Blue Jays RHP pitching prospect Sem Robberse is headed to St. Louis as part of the Jordan Hicks trade.
Robberse grew up in the Netherlands and participated in this year’s Future Game in Seattle. The 21-year-old has a mid-nineties fastball with an above-average slider and curveball. He posted a 4.06 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 86/33 K/BB ratio across 88 2/3 innings at Double-A New Hampshire this season.

Blue Jays RHP prospect Sem Robberse spun seven scoreless innings on Tuesday for High-A Vancouver.
Robberse allowed just two hits with a walk, and he struck out seven. In three starts for the Canadians, the right-hander has registered a 14/1 K/BB ratio, and a 2.65 ERA. The Blue Jays signed Robberse out of the Netherlands, and he’s now one of the top pitching prospects in their system. When at his best he can get into the mid 90s with his fastball, and his curveball gives him a legitimate out pitch. Add in a slider and serviceable change, and Robberse has the stuff to start. If he continues to fill out his frame -- there have been reports of weight gained and weight lost, so it’s something to keep an eye on -- and continues to gain ticks on the fastball, he could be someone fantasy managers want to use by the end of 2024.
