  • DET Relief Pitcher #73
Tigers recalled LHP Sean Guenther from Triple-A Toledo.
With Alex Faedo on the Paternity List, Guenther will be called up to give the Tigers a fresh arm in the bullpen. The 28-year-old has allowed one run in 1/13 innings with the Tigers this season and has a 3.31 ERA in 51 2/3 innings at Triple-A.

Tigers placed RHP Alex Faedo on the Paternity List.
Congrats to Faedo and his growing family. The right-hander will miss the next three games, but he also threw 35 pitches out of the bullpen on Tuesday and may not have pitched during those games regardless. Sean Guenther was called up from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #73
Tigers optioned LHP Sean Guenther to Triple-A Toledo.
It’s the corresponding move to the Tigers selecting the contract of Brant Hurter. Guenther was just called up Thursday, and there’s a decent chance he could be back up before the season comes to an end; albeit in a role that doesn’t deserve fantasy consideration.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #37
Tigers selected the contract of LHP Sean Guenther from Triple-A Toledo.
Guenther last appeared in the majors during the 2021 season when he made 14 relief appearances for the Marlins before undergoing Tommy John surgery just prior to the 2022 campaign. The 28-year-old left-hander has recorded a strong 3.86 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 46/14 K/BB ratio across 44 1/3 innings (34 appearances, two starts) this season at the Triple-A level. He’ll pitch in long relief situations for Detroit moving forward.
  • DET Shortstop #80
Tigers optioned INF Eddys Leonard, INF/OF Wenceel Pérez, RHPs Mason Englert, Wilmer Flores and Keider Montero and C Dillon Dingler, to Triple A Toledo; Reassigned RHP Devin Sweet, LHP Sean Guenther, C Donny Sands and OF TJ Hopkins to minor league camp.
Leonard was reportedly in the running for a bench spot with Detroit, but the club ultimately will send him down to Triple-A to start the season. The 23-year-old posted a .904 OPS in 40 games with Triple-A Toledo in 2023, so there’s likely a chance he gets an opportunity down the road barring an injury.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #73
Tigers sent LHP Sean Guenther outright to Triple-A Toledo.
The Tigers just claimed Guenther off of waivers from the Marlins in early November, but he got the boot off of the 40-man roster as the Tigers had players to protect for the Rule 5 draft. He has accepted his outright assignment and will continue his rehab there as he looks to return after Tommy John surgery caused him to miss the entire 2022 season.

Tigers claimed LHP Sean Guenther off waivers from the Marlins.
Guenther missed the entire 2022 regular season after requiring Tommy John elbow surgery in early April, and now he’ll have to try to revitalize his professional career within a new organization. The 26-year-old southpaw made his MLB debut with the Marlins in 2021 and wound up surrendering 22 runs -- 21 earned -- across his first 20 1/3 big league frames.

Sean Guenther underwent Tommy John surgery on Thursday.
We knew he was having a procedure and now we know it was the worst-case scenario. Guenther will be out until around midseason of 2023.

  • DET Relief Pitcher #73
Marlins placed LHP Sean Guenther on the 60-day injured list.
Guenther is expected to undergo surgery on his left arm, but the exact procedure hasn’t been announced yet. It’s unclear how much time he’s expected to miss, but he’ll open the regular season in the minors once he’s ready to return.

  • DET Relief Pitcher #73
Sean Guenther will begin the season on the injured list and is likely to need surgery on his pitching arm.
We don’t have any specifics at this point in regards to the injury or what kind of operation he will need, but Guenther is receiving a second opinion and we should know more after that. The lefty had been a candidate to make the Marlins’ bullpen.
