Orioles’ prospect Samuel Basallo was removed from his game at Triple-A Norfolk on Friday due to left hamstring discomfort.
The 20-year-old slugger is on the fringe of making an impact at the big league level with the O’s, but his timetable is going to get pushed back a bit if he winds up missing time due to the hamstring issue. Expect the team to have an update on his status as more information becomes available.
  • BAL Catcher #72
Orioles C/1B prospect Samuel Basallo crushed his first homer of the season on Saturday for Triple-A Norfolk.
Basallo belted 19 round-trippers last year between Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk and is one of the premier power-hitting prospects in the fantasy landscape. His path to playing time in Baltimore is a bit murky, but he’s the type of impact bat that will force his way into a prominent role, when he’s ready. It’s almost time.

Orioles reassigned C Samuel Basallo, OF Daz Cameron, INF/OF Nick Gordon, RHP Corbin Martin, RHP Levi Stoudt and RHP Thaddeus Ward to minor league camp.
One of the top prospects in the fantasy landscape, it feels like only a matter of time before Basallo is mashing at the highest level. The 20-year-old prodigy made it all the way to Triple-A last year and boasts top-of-the-scale raw power potential. He’s unlikely to retain catcher eligibility long-term, but he’ll make enough loud contact to be an impact fantasy contributor regardless of his defensive home.

Samuel Basallo clobbered a three-run homer on Monday against the Pirates.
Basallo’s no-doubter to right-center field left his bat at 111.3 mph and traveled 403 feet, according to Statcast. The 20-year-old burgeoning slugger, who checked in as the 21st-ranked prospect (107th overall) in Rotoworld’s latest dynasty rankings update, could make his big-league debut later this summer after launching 19 round-trippers last year in the upper minors. He’s probably going to move off catcher once he reaches the majors, but there’s enough raw power to envision him making a four-category impact if he reaches his ceiling.

Samuel Basallo went 1-for-3 with a three-run triple as the Orioles fell to the Tigers on Friday evening in Lakeland.
Basallo capped off a four-run uprising off of Keider Montero in the opening inning with a two-out, three-run triple. Astonishingly, that would wind up being the extent of the Orioles’ offense until they pushed three more runs across in the ninth inning. The 20-year-old backstop is having a solid spring at the dish, hitting .308 (4-for-13) with a homer and five RBI.

Samuel Basallo hit a long homer in his lone at-bat off the bench Thursday in the Orioles’ 11-8 defeat of the Blue Jays.
Basallo entered the game at first base today. He should eventually be a starting catcher in the majors, but that’s complicated in Baltimore, and he might have to first establish himself as a first baseman or DH. His bat simply isn’t going to need much more time in Triple-A.
  • Orioles C/1B prospect Samuel Basallo went 0-for-4 with a walk and an RBI on Tuesday in his debut for Triple-A Norfolk.
Basallo got the call up to the doorstep of the majors after batting .289/.355/.465 with 16 homers and nine steals in 106 contests for Double-A Bowie to open the year. The 20-year-old phenom is one of the top prospects in the fantasy landscape heading into 2025 and figures to join Baltimore’s talented young nucelus at some point next year.
  • Orioles C/1B prospect Samuel Basallo went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBI on Friday for Double-A Bowie.
Basallo remains firmly entrenched as one of the top fantasy prospects in the game as he’s continued to tear the cover off the ball in the upper minors at just 19 years old. He’s up to 14 round-trippers so far through 86 contests this season at the Double-A level.
  • Orioles C/1B prospect Samuel Basallo is at catcher and batting cleanup for the American League during Saturday’s All-Star Futures Game at Globe Life Field.
It’s a star-studded lineup with several of the top fantasy prospects in the game featured alongside Basallo. The 19-year-old burgeoning slugger has morphed into one of the premier dynasty hitters in the fantasy landscape last year, and has backed it up this season in the upper minors, batting .274/.338/.449 with 12 homers and seven steals through 75 games for Double-A Bowie. Here’s the full lineup: Max Clark CF, Cole Young 2B, Sebastian Walcott SS, Basallo C, Spencer Jones RF, Xavier Isaac 1B, Colson Montgomery 3B, Jaison Chourio LF and Harry Ford DH.
  • Orioles C/1B prospect Samuel Basallo went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer on Friday for Double-A Bowie.
Basallo homered for the second consecutive contest on Friday evening and is now up to 10 round-trippers on the season through just 51 contests for Double-A Bowie. The 19-year-old top prospect is heating up at the dish with hits in six consecutive games since June 1 while also going deep three times during that span. He’s arguably one of the top prospects in the entire fantasy landscape, even if he’s more likely to ultimately wind up at first base in the big leagues due to the presence of franchise cornerstone Adley Rutschman.
