Rangers signed OF Sam Haggerty to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Haggerty is coming off a lost season after tearing his Achilles in May. He has a career .232/.312/.351 slash line in 202 MLB games with nine home runs and 17 steals. He’s a versatile defender with good speed, but he has an uphill battle to earn playing time in Texas.
  • FA Left Fielder #0
    Mariners non-tendered INF/OF Sam Haggerty.
The versatile 30-year-old was projected by MLBTradeRumors.com to earn $900,000 via the arbitration process. He wound up appearing in just eight games for the Mariners during the 2024 season, hitting .067 (1-for-15) with one RBI, one stolen base an a 4/1 K/BB ratio. He also suffered a ruptured Achilles in May that cost him the remainder of the season. Haggerty’s speed always makes him an interesting deep-league commodity from a fantasy perspective, but he’s nowhere close to receiving regular at-bats at the big-league level right now.
  • SEA Left Fielder #0
Mariners recalled INF-OF Sam Haggerty from Triple-A Tacoma and placed him on the 60-day injured list.
Haggerty is out for the season with a torn Achilles suffered playing in Triple-A. This takes him off Seattle’s 40-man roster.
  • SEA Left Fielder #0
Sam Haggerty is out for the year after suffering a ruptured Achilles in a Triple-A game.
Haggerty was hurt Saturday while trying to make a catch in center and planting his foot in the padded wall. The utilityman had been demoted from the majors just three days earlier. He’s a lifetime .232/.312/.351 hitter in parts of six seasons in the majors.
  • SEA Left Fielder #0
Mariners optioned INF/OF Sam Haggerty to Triple-A Tacoma.
Haggerty was 1-for-15 since being recalled on Apr. 29. His versatility makes him a fair enough 26th man, but the Mariners don’t have much need for him right now.
  • SEA Catcher #29
Cal Raleigh is not in the starting lineup Sunday against the Athletics.
The man they call Big Dumper will get a day of rest for Sunday’s series finale against the Athletics. Seby Zavala will get the start behind the plate. The Mariners are going with their right-heavy lineup against southpaw Alex Wood, so Luis Urias is in for Josh Rojas, and Sam Haggerty is in for Luke Raley.
  • SEA Second Baseman #4
Josh Rojas is not in the starting lineup for Monday’s game against Atlanta.
Rojas is currently on a platoon with Luis Urias, and it’ll be Urias manning the hot corner with left-hander Max Fried on the bump for Atlanta. Seattle will also have Sam Haggerty in left field against the southpaw after recalling the versatile infielder/outfielder from Triple-A Tacoma.
  • SEA Left Fielder #0
Mariners recalled OF Sam Haggerty from Triple-A Tacoma.
The 29-year-old started the year on the IL but was activated and optioned to Triple-A on April 17th. Since then, he’s hit .344/.417/.375 with eight runs, seven RBI, and seven steals in 17 games. He’s had some fantasy value for stretches in the past, but will likely operate as a multi-position bench piece for the Mariners. He was called up to take the place of Jonatan Clase, who was sent back to Triple-A.
  • SEA Center Fielder #5
The Mariners are expected to option outfielder Jonatan Clase to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday.
The 21-year-old wound up appearing in just nine games during his brief stay with the big league club — hitting .222/.250/.259 with zero homers, three RBI, two stolen bases and a 9/1 K/BB ratio in 28 plate appearances. The thinking is probably that it’s best to let him play every day at the Triple-A level and continue to develop as opposed to seeing sporadic playing time with the M’s. Sam Haggerty is expected to be recalled to take his place on the active roster.
  • SEA Left Fielder #0
Mariners activated Sam Haggerty from the 10-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Tacoma.
Haggerty will provide depth for the M’s in the outfield this season, but other than that, fantasy managers shouldn’t run to waiver wire to pick up the 29-year-old.
