The Angels confirmed Monday that they’re hiring Eric Young Sr. as their third base coach and Ryan Goins as their infield coach.
Young is following Ron Washington from Atlanta to Anaheim, having served as the Braves’ first base coach since 2018. The 35-year-old Goins will be making his coaching debut after wrapping up a 14-year career that he finished in the Braves’ minor league system.
  • Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY reports Angels manager Ron Washington is expected to hire former Pirates manager Clint Hurdle as his bench coach.
Nightengale adds that Washington’s staff in Los Angeles is also expected to include Chili Davis as hitting coach, Torii Hunter as first base coach, Eric Young Sr. as third base coach and a recently-retired Ryan Goins as infield coach. There could wind up being some changes in the near future, but it’s a pretty impressive list for the Angels.
  • KC 2nd Baseman #25
Ryan Goins announced his retirement from professional baseball on Tuesday.
The 35-year-old infielder sat out the 2023 season after toiling in the minor leagues for the Braves during the 2021 and 2022 campaigns. He hasn’t appeared in a big league game since the truncated 2020 season. Overall, Goins slashed .228/.278/.333 with 22 homers, 158 RBI and six stolen bases across 1690 plate appearances over eight seasons with the Blue Jays, Royals and White Sox.
  • 2nd Baseman #25
Royals signed 2B Ryan Goins to a minor league contract.
Goins hasn’t appeared in the majors since the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign when he got into 14 contests for the White Sox. The 34-year-old veteran journeyman batted .217/.244/.257 with zero homers and zero steals across 317 plate appearances last season for Triple-A Gwinnett in the Braves’ system. He’s merely organizational filler at this advanced stage of his career.

  • 2nd Baseman #25
Ryan Goins has elected free agency.
Goins was called up briefly in mid-August to the Braves’ active roster, but didn’t end up getting into a game. The light-hitting 34-year-old journeyman infielder hasn’t appeared in the majors since the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign. He’s merely emergency organizational depth at this advanced stage of his career.

  • 2nd Baseman #25
Braves sent INF Ryan Goins outright to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Goins was assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett after he cleared waivers and remained with the Braves. The 34-year-old veteran will continue to serve as organizational depth.

  • 2nd Baseman #25
Braves designated INF Ryan Goins for assignment.
Goins was summoned from Triple-A Gwinnett last week to provide the Braves with some extra bench depth and didn’t end up getting into a contest. The 34-year-old veteran infielder will likely clear waivers and head back to the minors as organizational position player depth.

  • 2nd Baseman #25
Braves selected the contract of INF Ryan Goins from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Goins fortifies the Braves’ infield depth with Ehire Adrianza on the injured list with a viral infection. The 34-year-old veteran infielder hasn’t appeared in the majors since the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign.

  • 2nd Baseman #25
Braves reassigned INFs Ryan Goins, Phil Gosselin and Pat Valaika to minor league camp.
There’s no real surprises among this group of cuts for the Braves, though all three players were vying for a reserve infielder spot on the Opening Day roster. That should lock Orlando Arcia onto the roster. With these cuts, the Braves are now down to 34 players remaining in big league camp.

Ryan Goins went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Sunday’s Grapefruit League loss to the Rays.
Nothing doing for Goins on Sunday, though the same could be said for the Braves as a whole -- the team finished without an extra-base hit. Goins, who re-upped on a minor league contract with the organization earlier this spring, offers neither youthful upside (he is 34 years old) nor a history of statistical success. Bad combination for fantasy purposes.
