Orioles optioned RHP Seth Johnson to Triple-A Norfolk; reassigned LHP Ronald Guzmán, C Silas Ardoin, RHPs Nathan Webb, Garrett Stallings and RHP Justin Armbruester to minor league camp.
No real surprises here for Baltimore, but the name that stands out is Guzmán, who has reportedly been touching the upper-90’s this spring in bullpen sessions as he continues his transition to a full-time pitcher.

Orioles signed LHP/1B Ronald Guzmán to a minor league contract.
Guzmán began his career as a left-handed hitting first baseman, playing 246 career games with the Rangers and Yankees. However, when his production seemed to stall out, he began working as a pitcher and turned himself into a two-way player in the minor leagues in 2023. However, he also suffered a forearm strain which impacted his ability to pitch in 2023. The 29-year-old will now continue his development in Baltimore’s organization.

    Giants released 1B/LHP Ronald Guzmán.
The Giants experimented with Guzmán as an intriguing potential two-way player during spring training, but the 28-year-old left-hander suffered a pronator strain in his left forearm that eliminated any chance of making their season-opening roster. It’ll be interesting to see if he gets another shot in a different organization as a two-way project.

Giants reassigned 1B/LHP Ronald Guzmán to minor league camp.
Guzmán was making a compelling case to be included on the Giants’ season-opening roster as a two-way player before suffering a pronator strain in his left forearm earlier this month. The 28-year-old lefty is expected to be sidelined until sometime in May, but there’s a chance he gets a shot in San Francisco sometime later this year.

Ronald Guzmán has been diagnosed with a pronator strain in his left forearm.
He’s going to be shut down from throwing for at least a month, but the positive news here is that Guzmán doesn’t need to undergo surgery after exiting a Cactus League relief appearance last Sunday with an apparent forearm injury. The 28-year-old southpaw showed some real promise this spring as a potential big-league caliber reliever. It’s unclear how long he’ll be sidelined moving forward.

Ronald Guzman was pulled from Sunday’s Cactus League outing after suffering an injury to his forearm.
Giants manager Gabe Kapler told reporters after the game that Guzman felt something in his forearm on the final pitch that he threw. He’ll head for further testing including an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury. Expect the Giants to provide more info here as soon as they get those results.

Ronald Guzman was removed from Sunday’s Cactus League outing against the Athletics due to an apparent injury.
Guzman threw an errant pitch to the backstop and immediately bent over in pain on the mound, which prompted a visit from the training staff and his removal. He has actually looked impressive in his transition to the mound this spring was garnering legitimate consideration for a spot on the Opening Day roster. Let’s just hope that the injury is nothing serious and that he’s able to get back to work soon. Expect the Giants to provide an update on his status after the game concludes.

Ronald Guzmán allowed one run over one inning on Wednesday in his first Cactus League relief appearance.
Guzmán routinely touched the upper-90’s with his fastball and also flashed a strong slider in his first spring training appearance on the mound. The 28-year-old southpaw struck out Jake Hager to open the frame and also wound up surrendering a two-out homer to P.J. Higgins. He’s a long shot to make the Giants’ season-opening roster, but he’s definitely showing some promise as a legitimate big league reliever.

Ronald Guzmán is scheduled to pitch during Wednesday’s Cactus League contest against the Diamondbacks.
Guzmán is in Giants’ camp this spring as a non-roster invitee, attempting to win a spot on the Opening Day roster as a two-way player. The 28-year-old left-hander has reportedly been throwing in the mid-90’s this spring and also has a decent slider. At a bare minimum, Guzmán will be extremely interesting to watch this spring.

Giants extended 1B/LHP Ronald Guzmán a non-roster invitation to spring training as a two-way player.
This is an interesting wrinkle. Guzmán signed a minor league contract last month with the Giants and will be in major league camp this spring. The 28-year-old former top prospect hasn’t pitched professionally outside of one relief appearance last season for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Yankees’ system. It’s unclear whether he’ll ostensibly commit to pitching full-time this season, following the career path of someone like Anthony Gose, or if he’ll remain a primary first baseman that occasionally toes the rubber. We’ll see.
