Reds promoted RHP Rhett Lowder to Triple-A Louisville.
Lowder, who was selected seventh overall in last year’s MLB Draft, finds himself on the doorstep of the majors after posting a solid 3.86 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 106/24 K/BB ratio across 102 2/3 innings (21 starts) this season between High-A Dayton and Double-A Chattanooga.

Reds RHP prospect Rhett Lowder struck out nine over six innings on Friday for High-A Dayton.
Lowder was selected seventh overall in the 2023 MLB Draft following an impressive final collegiate season at Wake Forrest and has continued rolling in his professional debut. The 22-year-old righty boasts an excellent changeup, which should enable him to dominate the minor leagues before ascending to the big leagues. He figures to move quickly and could arrive in Cincinnati sooner than later.
  • CIN Shortstop #97
Reds reassigned SS Edwin Arroyo, RHPs Rhett Lowder, Chase Petty, Julian Aguiar, Zach Maxwell, LHPs Reiver Sanmartin and Jacob Heatherly, Cs Mat Nelson, Michael Trautwein and Daniel Vellojín, INF Tyler Callihan and OF Blake Dunn to minor league camp.
No surprises here, but Arroyo, Lowder and Petty are the big-name prospects here. Lowder was Cincinnati’s first-round pick last summer and figures to move quickly after a standout collegiate career. Petty throws extremely hard and is just beginning to harness his formidable arsenal. He might be the first to arrive in the big leagues out of that trio.

Reds signed first-round pick RHP Rhett Lowder.
Lowder winds up receiving a $5.7 million signing bonus, which is nearly $600,000 under the slot value for the seventh overall selection. The 21-year-old right-hander put together a phenomenal final collegiate season for Wake Forest, finishing with a microscopic 1.87 ERA and 143/24 K/BB ratio across 120 1/3 innings (19 starts).

Reds selected Wake Forest RHP Rhett Lowder with the seventh pick of the 2023 MLB Draft.
Lowder is coming off a dominant junior campaign that saw him go 15-0 with a microscopic 1.87 ERA and 143/24 K/BB ratio across 120 innings (19 starts) for Wake Forest. The 21-year-old righty makes great use of a terrific changeup, and his fastball and slider should be major-league quality pitches, even if neither stands out. The total package should make him a potential No. 2 or 3 starter for the Reds, and it’s quite possible he’ll debut at some point during the 2024 season.
