Braves activated RHP Pierce Johnson from the 15-day injured list.
Johnson returns to bolster Atlanta’s high-leverage relief mix following a two-week absence due to right elbow inflammation. The 33-year-old righty was a revelation last year for the Braves following a midseason trade from the Rockies and boasts a stellar 16/5 K/BB ratio across 12 innings of work this season.

Pierce Johnson (elbow) threw a live batting practice session on Wednesday without any issues.
It doesn’t sound like he’s going to require a minor league rehab assignment, so if the Braves felt good about how Wednesday’s session went, Johnson could return from the injured list on Friday. Before landing on the shelf with right elbow inflammation, he had posted a 3.00 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and a 16/5 K/BB ratio over 12 innings of work.

Atlanta placed RHP Pierce Johnson on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.
Johnson has been an effective member of the Atlanta bullpen with a 3.00 ERA over 13 appearances in 16 innings. The right-hander will miss at least two weeks while recovering, but there’s no firm timetable as to when the 32-year-old will be back in action.

Pierce Johnson notched his first save with a scoreless ninth against the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
The Braves picked Johnson with Raisel Iglesias unavailable after working Friday and Saturday. It’s his first save since he was acquired from the Rockies last summer. He was closing for Colorado then, having picked up 13 saves in the first four months of the year.

Braves signed RHP Pierce Johnson to a two-year, $14.25 million contract with a $7 million club option for 2026.
The deal, which is official, buys out Johnson’s final two arbitration-eligible seasons, and also includes a $250,000 buyout. The 32-year-old right-hander compiled a microscopic 0.76 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 32/5 K/BB ratio across 23 2/3 innings (24 appearances) for the Braves after being acquired just prior to the trade deadline from the Rockies.

Braves acquired RHP Pierce Johnson from the Rockies for RHP’s Victor Vodnick and Tanner Gordon.
The trade is now official. Johnson augments Atlanta’s relief depth for their upcoming playoff push in exchange for a pair of minor league pitching prospects. The 32-year-old righty has recorded a career-high 13 saves this season for the Rockies to go along with a pedestrian 6.00 ERA, 1.85 WHIP and 58/25 K/BB ratio across 39 innings (43 appearances). He’s made 183 appearances in the majors dating back to 2017 and will be a free agent at the conclusion of the year.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports the Braves are acquiring right-hander Pierce Johnson from the Rockies.
Johnson provides the Braves with another experienced high-leverage relief option moving forward. The 32-year-old righty has recorded a career-high 13 saves this season for the Rockies to go along with a pedestrian 6.00 ERA, 1.85 WHIP and 58/25 K/BB ratio across 39 innings (43 appearances). He’s made 183 appearances in the majors dating back to 2017.

Pierce Johnson slammed the door on the Tigers in the ninth inning on Friday night, working a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a three-run lead and earn his 13th save of the season.
Johnson did surrender a one-out single to Zack Short, but then got Eric Haase to bounce into a game-ending double play to end it. The 32-year-old hurler still isn’t the team’s closer, but he does seem to be working back into manager Bud Black’s good graces. He now sports a 6.00 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and a 49/20 K/BB ratio across 33 innings.

Pierce Johnson was asked to hold a one-run lead in the 10th inning against the Red Sox and notched his 11th save of the season.
The 10th inning was not without drama. After a three-run top of the 10th, Matt Carasiti gave up a two-run homer to Rafael Devers to immediately cut the lead to a run. Carasiti then walked Jarren Duran, so the Rockies summoned Johnson and he got a quick flyout from Christian Arroyo before striking out Reese McGuire. He cut his ERA to 7.11 and this should not be read as an endorsement of him getting back the closer job as he didn’t start the inning.

Rockies manager Bud Black told reporters on Friday that Pierce Johnson has been removed from the team’s closer role.
This move doesn’t come as a surprise, as Justin Lawrence has basically usurped the role in the midst of Johnson’s constant struggles, but it’s now official. What Black wouldn’t do however, is name Lawrence as his ninth-inning guy. He did mention him -- and Jake Bird -- as possible candidates to fill that role though.
