Ranger Suárez pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings and struck out eight against the Mets in Wednesday’s Game 4.

Suárez pitched out of bases-loaded jams, both fueled by Alex Bohm miscues, in the first and second innings, and it was hard to say what he had left in the tank afterwards. Still, with the curveball working as well as it ever has, he got 13 outs before being replaced by Jeff Hoffman. Suárez didn’t factor into the decision, of course, but he lowered his career postseason ERA to 1.43 ERA in eight starts and two relief appearances.
Zack Wheeler

Zack Wheeler will only be available for Game 4 of the NLDS against the Mets on Wednesday in an emergency situation.

What exactly constitutes an emergency is subjective, as one could argue that “lose and you don’t get to play anymore” would qualify. Wheeler will hope he can get the Game 5 start with Ranger Suarez on the bump for the Phillies. While Wheeler won’t be available, Cristopher Sanchez — the Game 2 starter — is expected to be an option for the must-win game.
Weston Wilson

Weston Wilson is starting in left field and hitting eighth against the Mets on Wednesday in Game 4 of the NLDS.

Brandon Marsh is moving to center field for the contest, and Johan Rojas will retreat to the bench. Wilson was a solid surprise for the Phillies in 2024, and now will get a chance to make an impact in a must-win game for Philadelphia. The full lineup: DH Kyle Schwarber, SS Trea Turner, 1B Bryce Harper, RF Nick Castellanos, 3B Alec Bohm, C J.T. Realmuto, 2B Bryson Stott, LF Wilson and CF Marsh.
Aaron Nola

Aaron Nola allowed four runs in five innings and took the loss against the Mets on Tuesday.

Nola gave up five hits, walked two and struck out eight. Nola allowed a pair of solo home runs to Pete Alonso and Jesse Winker. Down 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Philadelphia desperately needed a shutdown inning. Nola allowed a single to Mark Vientos and walked the bases loaded with no outs before he was removed. A two-out two-run single by Starling Marte off Orion Kerkering gave the Mets a 4-0 lead and essentially sealed the Phillies’ fate in Game 3.
Alec Bohm

PHI Third Baseman #28

Alec Bohm is hitting fifth and playing third base against the Mets on Tuesday in Game 3 of the NLDS.

Bohm was benched for Game 2 against New York, but even after going hitless off the bench the 28-year-old will be back on the hot corner against southpaw Sean Manaea. Edmundo Sosa is still in the lineup with Bryson Stott sitting against the left-hander, and Austin Hays gets the start in left with Brandon Marsh on the bench to begin play. The full lineup for Philadelphia as they look to take a 2-1 series lead: DH Kyle Schwarber, SS Trea Turner, 1B Bryce Harper, RF Nick Castellanos, 3B Bohm, C J.T. Realmuto, LF Austin Hays, 2B Sosa, and CF Johan Rojas.
Ranger Suarez

PHI Starting Pitcher #55

Phillies manager Rob Thomson announced that Ranger Suárez will start Game 4 of the NLDS against the Mets.

It will be a battle of left-hander with Suárez up against Jose Quintana. Suárez was one of the best pitchers in baseball over the few couple of months of the season but predictably settled in as just a solid depth piece in the rotation. He finishes with a 3.46 ERA in 27 starts but gives the Phillies a solid option in a crucial Game 4.
Andrew Painter

Phillies RHP Andrew Painter (elbow) will pitch in the Arizona Fall League.

Painter is the Phillies’ top pitching prospect and was sidelined for all of 2024 after undergoing Tommy John surgery last July. He was recently getting rave reviews for his work in bullpen sessions at the end of the season and will now get a chance to face live hitters in game situations during the Arizona Fall League. Given his age and the fact that he missed all of this season, the Phillies are not going to rush him to the big leagues; however, a strong showing in the AFL and a clean bill of health heading into 2025 could put Painter on the map for a mid-season call-up to Philadelphia.
Trea Turner

Trea Turner scored twice and stole two bases while going 2-for-4 in a win over the Mets on Sunday in Game 2 of the NLDS.

Both steals came in the first inning; one when the Mets basically told him third base was open if he wanted it. It’s still nice to see the 31-year-old run after he “only” picked up 19 steals in the regular season. We’ll see if this is a sign of things to come for the Philadelphia postseason run.
Nick Castellanos

PHI Right Fielder #8

Nick Castellanos hit a solo homer and drove in the game-winning run in the ninth in a 7-6 win over the Mets on Sunday in Game 2 of the NLDS.

Oh how things can change in this sport. Castellanos was mock-cheered for laying off a pitch in the dirt after swinging and missing — badly — at two earlier in an at-bat. Castellanos was seen muttering something not-so-nice in that at-bat, but clearly, it didn’t hurt him. He went back-to-back with Bryce Harper in the sixth inning, and his solo shot tied the game at 3-3. He also singled to move Harper to third in the eighth, and one inning later, he lined what would have been a double with two outs to win the game. It keeps Philadelphia out of a 2-0 hole, and now they’ll have Aaron Nola on the mound for Game 3 in New York on Tuesday.
Bryson Stott

PHI Shortstop #5

Bryson Stott hit a two-run triple to give Philadelphia the lead in the eighth inning in Game 2 of the NLDS against the Mets on Sunday in a win for the Phillies.

With the Phillies trailing 4-3, Stott lined a two-run double in the right-field corner to give Philadelphia a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the eighth. He would come around to score on an error by Mark Vientos. Stott went 3-for-8 with the pair of RBI in the first two games of the series. He’ll be a big factor in determining how well Philadelphia does in these playoffs.
