Trea Turner finished 2-for-2 with a double and a walk Friday in the Phillies’ 10-2 takedown of the Marlins.

Turner, who had been 0-for-6 this spring, was removed for a pinch-runner after singling in the fourth. He’ll be sticking around Phillies camp next month after going uninvited to rejoin Team USA for the WBC. He was one of the stars of the tournament last time around, going 9-for-23 with five homers in six games, but Bobby Witt Jr. got the nod over him this time and the club probably didn’t want to carry two shortstops who couldn’t be asked to play other positions.

Aaron Nola pitched two innings of one-run ball Friday against the Marlins.

Nola allowed two hits, walked none and struck out two. He’ll have one more outing next week before joining Team Italy for the World Baseball Classic.

Yoniel Curet gave up five runs without getting an out in relief Friday against the Phillies.

Curet allowed two hits, walked two and hit a batter, also mixing in a wild pitch. We were surprised when the Rays DFA’d the 23-year-old Curet to open up a spot on the 40-man in December, but they usually know what they’re doing. Picking him up may eventually pay off for the Phillies, but he’s not a candidate to contribute right now.

Orion Kerkering (hamstring) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday, his first time doing so since suffering a Grade 1 hamstring strain.

Kerkering still has plenty of time to ramp up and get himself ready before Opening Day after suffering a Grade 1 hamstring strain at the outset of spring camp. Barring any setbacks from here, he should be ready to open the season as part of a committee setting up for closer Jhoan Duran.
Zack Wheeler

Zack Wheeler (shoulder) is scheduled to throw his next bullpen session on Sunday.

The 35-year-old right-hander appears to be slightly ahead of schedule in his recovery from thoracic outlet decompression surgery that he underwent in late September. The Phillies aren’t going to rush him back, but it sounds like he could beat the initial estimate that had him returning to the Phillies’ rotation in early May which would be a major boon to fantasy managers who invested in him in early drafts.

On Thursday, Zack Wheeler (shoulder) threw his first bullpen session since undergoing thoracic outlet decompression surgery on September 23rd.

It was a 21-pitch session that featured just four-seam and two-seam fastballs. Afterwards, Phillies manager Rob Thomson said, “The velo was good, the ball flight was good...He felt great. We’ll check him tomorrow, find out how he’s feeling, and get a plan going moving forward.” As of now, Wheeler’s timeline is fluid, and the Phillies have said they will not rush him back because he’s too important to their success this season. As of now, an early May return seems like it might be the most optimistic outlook for Wheeler.
Bryson Stott

Bryson Stott hit a solo homer and walked twice in the Phillies’ 7-3 defeat of the Nationals on Thursday.

Stott’s homer was a 336-footer just over the wall in left. He’ll remain the Phillies’ second baseman against righties this year, with Edmundo Sosa often starting over him versus left-handers. That he’s a platoon player batting seventh limits his fantasy upside, but that he’s averaged 29 steals over the last three seasons has given him some value anyway.
Taijuan Walker

Taijuan Walker allowed one run and two hits over two innings Thursday against the Nationals.

Walker gave up two hits and a run in a 20-pitch first. In the second, he allowed a single with two outs, only to pick off Seaver King at first afterwards. Walker is almost certainly going to open up in the Phillies’ rotation with Zack Wheeler down. The question is whether he’ll perform well enough to hang on to the fifth spot once Wheeler is back.
Otto Kemp

Otto Kemp had a solo homer as the Phillies’ second baseman Wednesday in a 5-3 win over the Tigers.

Kemp was responsible for the game’s two hardest balls in play, with his 109-mph groundout actually eclipsing his 108-mph, 419-foot homer to center. The Phillies currently have two bench spots open for Kemp, Dylan Moore and Johan Rojas, all of whom could platoon against lefties. Kemp has the most interesting bat of the three but also the least defensive value, if that winds up mattering.
Alec Bohm

Alec Bohm had two hits and two RBI against the Tigers on Wednesday.

It didn’t work out so well last year, but if Bohm gets his power numbers back to where they were in 2023 and ’24, he has a chance to drive in over 100 runs as the Phillies’ cleanup hitter. He offers nice value for someone lasting pretty deep into drafts.
