Burdick

Burdick got into 46 contests for the Marlins from 2022-2023, batting .200/.281/.368 with five homers and two steals in 139 plate appearances. The 27-year-old outfielder, who spent all of last season at the Triple-A level between the Reds and Orioles, has likely been cut loose to pursue an opportunity overseas.

Burdick went unclaimed after being placed on the waiver wire. The outfielder will provide outfield depth in the minors for the remainder of 2024.

Burdick was hitting just .190/.298/.361 in 43 games for Triple-A Louisville after opening the season with the Orioles’ Triple-A affiliate and hitting .182/.333/.455 there. He still has impressive power, but it doesn’t look like it’ll ever make up for his contact issues.

The 27-year-old outfielder was waived by Baltimore on Monday and now heads to Cincinnati’s organization where he’ll continue to develop at the Triple-A level.

Burdick has ping-ponged between the White Sox and Orioles over the last month since being jettisoned from the Marlins’ 40-man roster. The 27-year-old outfielder will open the year back at Triple-A Norfolk as extra organizational depth.

Burdick has been jettisoned from Chicago’s 40-man roster to make room for reliever Steven Wilson in the wake of the Dylan Cease trade with the Padres. The 27-year-old outfielder might generate some interest on waivers, but figures to remain with the White Sox as extra organizational outfield depth.

Montgomery is the future at shortstop for the White Sox and is a huge on-base percentage asset with a .410 OBP with 123 walks through 186 minor league games. He’s currently the 9th-ranked prospect in MLB Pipeline and could be up in Chicago by the summer.

It’s been a whirlwind few weeks for Burdick, who heads to his third organization in less than a month after being jettisoned from Miami’s 40-man roster at the outset of spring training. The 26-year-old outfielder holds a pedestrian .649 OPS in 139 plate appearances over the last two years in the big leagues.

Burdick was only with the Orioles since February 14 and will try to find a new team during spring camp. The 26-year-old was dropped after Baltimore traded for RHP Kyle Ort from Philadelphia.
