Rockies signed SS Peter Mooney to a minor league contract.

Mooney had a nice showing in Marlins camp last spring and went on to post a decent .282/.357/.423 batting line over 276 plate appearances at Triple-A New Orleans. The 28-year-old will be middle-infield depth for the Rockies in 2019. He has never played in a major league game.

Peter Mooney went 4-for-4 with a triple and a double against the Astros on Thursday.

Mooney has never hit much in the minors, but he’s come through with a .359/.432/.487 line in 39 at-bats for the Marlins this spring in his quest to win a bench job. It might happen, if only because J.T. Riddle seems increasingly likely to open up on the DL.
